On 09-26-2002, AP Worldstream reported that Norway Police (Oslo), volunteers and even aircraft were engaged in a major "manhunt" for a police dog named Arro that went missing on the job. The dog pursued a suspect into a dense forest and disappeared. Officer Cato Hjemsaeter led the search for the Oslo police. Ole Vidar Dahl, head of the Oslo police canine unit, said police would not give up until they know what happened to him. What happend to Arro? Was he found? Was he injured? Was the suspect apprehended? What was the crime? Who can tell me the story of what happened start to finish? |

http://www.vg.no/pub/vgart.hbs?artid=5836745 (In Norwegian) As you can see from the picture, owner and dog are happily reunited after 1.5 days. The dog Arro (aged 5) was looking for a "suspecious person" when the policeman tripped and fell over. The dog didn't stop and the policeman couldn't catch up with him and they got separated. The next day the story was published everywhere and at a nearby farm when they heard sounds from an unknown dog outside they suspected it could be the police dog. It was. The dog was then actually stuck as the "tracking line" normally connecting the policeman and the dog had got tangled up in bushes. As the area had already been searched by the more than 30 people (and helicopter) who were out looking for the dog they suspect it had not been there for very long when it was found. It had no injuries. The man they were looking for was never found and it's not clear why he ran into the woods when he was passed by a police car on the road. It could by anything. |

I'm so glad the dog is ok! I had visions of him freezing to death out there somewhere... |
