Hello all, I was debating getting blue underbody lights for my car but
was not able to find out if they are legal or not in Wisconsin. I have
asked two police officers and one said they are illegal and one said
as long as you can't see the bulbs then its ok.

I'm looking for some documentation from the state or federal
government saying its ok.

If any one needs any elaboration let me know.

So, my understanding now is that you have read and law and you are
seeking an interpretation of the statute. Am I correct in assuming
that this interpretation will suffice as an answer?

Tthanks in advance

That sounds about right, I read the PDF before posting, and wasn't
sure if that statute was the one the applied to lights under a car. If
it does the word light can be used as the light from under a car or
the light it self. I know how I would interpret it but how a police
officer or how the court would interpret it is what I am looking for.

I don't think there would be any local laws that would supersead or
clarify that one.

Sorry for the bad spelling, at work and in a hurry.

I've seen quite a few cars with underbody lights of varying colors
(here in Wisconsin). While not authoritative, evidence seems to
suggest it's fine. They're certainly less distracting to other
drivers than the xenon (or whatever) headlights that are so blue and
bright.

You need to read: http://www.legis.state.wi.us/Statutes/01Stat0347.pdf

Section 347.07

As long as it's not "directly visible" from the front (and not white)
or rear (and not red) you should still be ok but it comes down to how
you define "directly visible" I guess.

orakel,
Actuly I read that entire pdf before asking this question. The word
directly is used, but only if the light is visible from directly
infront or behind. Now light can mean a light bulb or a light ray. Do
I get to pick witch one? :)
