Question ID: 97897
I'm looking for the lineup of bands that played in a local "Battle of
the Bands" contest in Grand Rapids, MI, at Club Eastbrook in the early
90's. There were maybe 4-5 bands in the lineup, and the only one
whose name I can remember is "INFX." There were subsequent "Battles"
in later years at the same place, and I am not interested in that
information -- only the specific night with "INFX". The club is now
known, I believe, as the "Orbit Room" and not Club Eastbrook. I am
positive the event was pre-1995, probably in '92 or '93, and I think
during the summer. All I need are the names of the bands that played
that night. The contest was
probably sponsored by a local radio station, most likely WKLQ or WGRD.

Hi,

I have contacted the Orbit Room regarding your requirement. I
suspect the date was 18th October, 2002 and another band was 'the
sphere'. I will get back to you as soon as I get a response from them

Cheers,
Aditya2K

Hi hickster,

I was putting off a response to your question, hoping that I would
receive better news than I have so far received. But unfortunately,
it seems your request is next to impossible to fullfil.
I wrote to various people who I believed would give us some sort of
clue. I believed if they couldn't help, then hardly anyone else could
either. I'm posting the replies I've received for you to read:

WGRD Radio Station:
"seriously, i have no idea...and i don't think anybody does....i don't
even know who you could ask....maybe the orbit room? (formerly club
eastbrook)or aris hampers on the fox.....or just go to aris' disc shop
sorry...hope you find out your answers"

WKLQ Radio Station:
"We have no records of the bands that played the contest back then"

Aris Hampers, co-ordinator for the Orbit Room:
"Unfortunately, no one has any records of our Rock Search before 1995.
I had the same dilemma with the local Press when they ran the last
article. Even "they" didn't keep that information.
We're in the middle of the 10th anniversary of this event, and our
memories are pretty bad. The event at that time didn't have the high
profile that it does now.
I'm the coordinater, and the INFX band doesn't even ring a bell with
me. (over 1500 bands have entered since it's inception.)
Sorry to disappoint you, but I'm afraid that kind of information is
lost forever.
Thanks for writing"

The Orbit Room:
"I really have no idea. I sent your request out to some people. Nobody
could remember. Club Eastbrook became The Orbit Room. I came in
6-months after the opening. Only one person is left form those days
and a handful that I took to on a weekly basis. I will keep asking
around and see what I come up with, but I wouldn't count on much.
Those were the days when Rock n' Roll were fun... Now, it is more
like a business. Talk about ruining Rock n' Roll...
Take Care"

I really wish I could have posted more positive feedback for you. And
I wish you good luck on your search. If I do receive anything more
regarding this, I will post it here for you.
Best regards,
rainbow~
