Mel Blanc, the "man of a thousand voices", died on
July 10, 1989. He was the voice of many famous
cartoon characters such as Bugs Bunny and Daffy
Duck.

Sometime soon after he died I saw a single-frame
comic somewhere, I think in black & white, showing
a tombstone with Mel Blanc's
name on it, and a bunch of his famous cartoon characters
standing around looking at it. The characters have a
collective word-bubble, but there's nothing in it.
(Like they have no voice.)

How can I get a copy of this cartoon? I'm pretty sure
it was in a magazine, but I'm not even sure of that.

AND, to make things infinitely worse, Warner Brothers
issued a tribute to Mel Blanc which is a color print,
showing a bunch of cartoon characters standing around
a microphone stand that is in the center of a spotlight,
but nobody is there. This print is called "Speechless",
and it is unfortunately NOT the comic that I saw.

Any ideas on how one goes about finding such a thing?
I've spent a few hours here and there web-surfing, and
found things like Mel Blanc's obituary, a picture of
his real tombstone, various people selling the
"Speechless" print, but zippo on the actual quest object.

Do you have any idea which magazines or periodicals you may have been
reading at the time? Any list would help!

An hour of searching and all I could come up with was this :

This is indeed a tough request :-)

I know the first one is not Mel Blanc - I just thought it might jog
your memory. It was the closet I could find for now. I'll keep my eyes
open.

Hi,

Thanks for looking into this; seems most of my life I have been
interested in things that are somewhat off the beaten track. I
don't think this'll help much, but I know the cartoon wasn't in
any magazine that I subscribed to or bought, else I would have
cut it out. As best as I can remember, it was something I picked
up and looked through, like in a dentist's office or something.

Sorry I can't be more specific...
