Hello, nowaytia,

I found the 45vxl for you, but can't quite meet all your requirements.
The company that has it for sale is in New York and would ship by
truck, so delivery could take a few extra days. Also, they offer only
a 14 day mbg, which seems to be industry standard.

The good news is that the unit I found is on special right now, new,
for $1,099.95 with baseboard. This is cheaper by several hundred
dollars than some sources.

I did talk to Beseler, got a dealer's name in LA, but they don't stock
the unit which is why I ended up in NY for you.

If this equipment and arrangement would meet your needs, let me know
and I'll post my complete information as an answer.

Thanks, ericynot

Hello again,

Just to make it more interesting, I have just received information
about a couple of used units that might work for you. The details are
a little complicated, so I'll wait to see if you have interest before
typing them up. The difference here is that these two enlargers can be
delivered to you in less than five days and they offer 30 days mbg.
However, the overall guarantee, since it's used equipment, is also 30
days. I don't know if that would be a problem for you since enlargers,
if working well initially, typically keep working.

Let me know what you think.

ericynot - those are all interesting options. i would be interested
in following up on both the new and the used alternatives to see which
one might be the best solution.

new: what time frame are they estimating for truck delivery? is truck
delivery the only option or can the unit be shipped by a faster
service (ups, etc)?

used: do the units still have warranties or is the 30 day guarantee
the only recourse available? is this available thru an auction
service, or can it be bought immediately? and...what delivery service
are they using?

finally, i'm assuming these sources have both the chassis and the
light source (condenser light source).

would love to get complete information re sources, costs, etc.

thanks for your help - this is awesome!

OK, this gets a little tricky to do in writing (wish Google had a
telephone option), but I'll try to summarize so it makes sense.

Option 1 - new unit with baseboard and, they assure me, condensor head
included, for $1,099.95 plus shipping. The guy said they only ship by
truck (even though it's needed in 5 days), which made no sense to me -
why not UPS? - but I didn't argue with him. He also said the shipping
time would be 1 -2 weeks and probably run about $200. You might be
able to get them to budge on the shipping method. This deal almost
worries me because the price is so good, but I had him repeat the
offer to me twice to verify.

Option 2 - available to ship (none of these is an auction item), one
"like-new" 45vxl with baseboard and a color head for #1,200. You'd
still have to buy the condensor head for $475 new or $250 used. The
used head would have a slightly blue-gray color that would not exactly
match the black enlarger. The new head version would be the same black
as the enlarger.

Option 3 - also available to ship is a good condition unit (not as
nice as Option 2, but a good machine) for $750. Here's the interesting
part: it's a wall-mount unit and comes with a three-lens turret. You'd
have to buy the condensor head separately for the same prices quoted
in Option 2 (it's from the same company). If you want a baseboard for
this unit, it's going to run $120 extra.

Option 1 looks dynamite if you can give up a little on the shipping
time.

Both Options 2 & 3 say no problem getting to CA in less than five
days, but obviously your choice of shipping time will affect the
shipping cost. Also, both those units, as previously noted can be
returned any time in the first 30 days (you'll be liable for shipping
in both directions, of course), but there is no warranty beyond that
period since the equipment is used.

If we're on the right track here, turn me loose to give you a Google
"answer" with the names, phone numbers and contact sales persons at
both companies, and I suspect you can work with them directly to get a
deal worked out that will have you printing within the week.

Good deal. Based on the information in my previous RFCs, here's who
you need to call to get your Beseler 45VXL.

Option 1 is offered by B & H Photo in New York City. You'll need to
talk with Marvin at 212-239-7500 ext. 2957.

Options 2 & 3 are from Photographics Supply in McKeesport,
Pennsylvania. Call George at 800-245-6715.

I feel sure one of those guys will get you fixed up with what you
need. If you run into any problems, just post another RFC and I'll be
notified by Google.

Best of luck with your new enlarger,

ericynot-ga

Oops - meant to post in Clarification section -

My pleasure. Hope to see you around these parts again soon. If it's
not being too nosy, which option did you go with?
