Sony has discontinued their SCN-46X3 protective screen, but has
suggested to me that one of their dealers may have this item in stock.
I have searched the internet for Sony dealers and have not found this
item anywhere. The retail price is (was) $149. Please find a dealer
who has this item in stock (new, not used) who can ship it to Northern
Virginia. Thanks!

Why did Sony discontinue this item? How much do you desire to get
this item? Would you be satisfied with any other product that might
be subsituted to use instead?

SINCERELY,

1) Don't know why Sony discontinued it. I assume because most of
their new television models have a protective screen built-in, and
this is a relatively older model.

2) How much do I desire to get it? Well, hard to say. I mean, the
television it's going to protect (Sony KP-46S25) cost about $1,500 5
years ago. We have a newly-standing child (11 months old) who likes
to bang it. So, I'll gladly spend $150 to protect both the television
and my new kid (plus $25 for this question), but it would be silly to
spend too much more than that, given the value of the television set.
I'll just keep doing what I'm doing (move the kid away from the TV
when he bangs it).

3) I probably wouldn't be satisfied with another product, but would be
willing to listen to any suggestions you may have. I trust the Sony
protective screen won't adversely affect picture quality, and will fit
properly. A 3rd-party screen may not work as well. I certainly don't
want anything goofy-looking. Needs to pass the
'wife-acceptance-test', as well as the 'child-safety-test'. A
do-it-yourself protective screen held on with velcro doesn't appeal to
me.

Thanks for your questions/comments. Thanks to bananaboy, too, for
posting the URL to Sony. I should have posted that with my original
question -- but yes, that's where I originally found it, and when you
try to call them to order it, they tell you it's been discontinued...
Thank you both!

Hi johnalexander-ga. I have located one dealer that might still have
the item in stock. But just in case they don't have a brand new item,
could you settle for a second hand item but still in good condition?
I've already inquired and will post the details as soon as I get their
reply. Just hang on, I'll inform you asap.

Sincerely
feilong-ga

Tough luck Johnalexander-ga! It seems my source also has no Sony
SCN-46X3 in stock. Anyway, I will continue looking for one until your
search here has expired. I also hope you will come across the item one
of these days. I wish you good luck!

what about 48x3, 53x3, or 61x3 models? it seems you ought to be able
to cut a larger one down to the 46" size you need...does anyone carry
one of those?

Thanks for the suggestion, but I'd rather not cut one down to size.
If I'm not going to get the original Sony one, I'll probably get one
of the RCA "universal fit" screens designed to fit any 46" television.
I was just hoping by posting here I could find the original Sony
piece. Thanks for taking the time to make a suggestion!
