I'm not sure if this is a type of question suitable for Google Answers
but I figured I would try it anyway. Here goes...

I've having a problem with my GE cordless phone and am trying to
figure out how to fix it. Yesterday when I went to make a phone call
I hit the Talk button on
the phone and heard a beeping noise similar to what you would hear if
you were watching the emergency test pattern on TV. This has happened
a few times before and in the past all I had to do was turn it off and
turn it on again and all would be fine. However, yesterday that
didn't work. Finally, I decided to power the handset off. When I
turned it on again, it came up with a message stating that it was
"Searching--------". That continued indefinitely and I was unable to
use the phone to make any calls. I replaced the battery on the phone
and tried everything again but that didn't help.

I'm guessing I may just have to ditch the phone and buy another but I
wanted to post here first in case there's something that I might be
able to do to get this fixed. Thanks in advance.

I gave up tonight and decided to buy another phone so I'm going to go
ahead and close this question. I got a 2.4 GHz for around $50 which
isn't too bad. Hopefully I won't encounter this same problem again.

Hello--

If you call GE, they may be able to tell you why that is happening to your phone.

I hope this helps in some small way!

This sounds like the phone cannot "find" the base station. In this
case, on most phones, you would then hang up the phone on the carger,
wait a bit, then try again. I assume you already tried this, so I
don't know how much help it will be. It definitly sounds like the
phone either cannot communicate with your base station / charger, or
it cannot associate with it (association means that only your GE
cordless phone can dial from your home phone, and not your neighbors
phone. It serves as a security measure). Other than hanging up the
phone, I don't know what method would cause the phone to properly
associate itself.
