How many elected officials are there in the US?  From the president on
down to small town mayors, and council members.

Hello.

According to a 1995 report by the U.S. Census Bureau, there were
511,039 elected officials in the U.S. That figure broke down as
follows:
Federal: 542
State: 18,828
Local: 491,669

According to the U.S. Government's "Federal Voting Assistance
Program," there are "nearly 500,000" elected officials in the U.S.
