"Movers" were defined as those living in a different house the
previous year and were given a list to choose from as to their reasons
for moving. The basic categories and percentages are given here...

In addition, this report breaks down the numbers by distance of move,

The information is derived from the Current Population Surveys (CPS),
a monthly survey of 50,000 households, representative of the
non-institutional civilian population.
