Hi mondo11,

I would, from experience, suggest the
cleanest reinstall possible. I would
also suggest you consider a newer OS.

Aside from that, how would you like for
us to form your answer? How much detail
are you looking for to do a reinstall?
Would providing a website with the process
suffice?

thanks,

Hi mondoll

There are two routes you can go form here. Depending upon your
problem, you might just need to reinstall windows over top of the
existing version. Otherwise, you will need to format your drive and
start from scratch. I recommend this if you got a virus. Now, if you
have a CD or Disk provided by your manufacturer that says something to
the effect of "Restore CD" or "Restore Disk", put that in and reboot
your computer. If not, try to put in your regular windows 98se disk
and reboot your computer. Watch the screen for something that says
"Push enter to boot from CD". Push the indicated key if you see that.
Then it should reinstall windows. Otherwise, if your system boots
normally, then you will have to reboot your computer again, and go
into your BIOS settings. This can be tricky. At the beginning of the
booting up, you need to push a certain key (different for each
computer), but some common ones are "F1" "DEL" "INSERT" "ESCAPE"
"TAB". Just push them all, one by one, if your computer does not give
you a message stating which key is correct. Then, you need to look
through the menus for an option called something to the effect of
"Drive boot order." It's probably set on "A,C" or "A then C". This
all depends on when you got your computer. You need to change this to
something that lists the CD before the C drive. Again, depending on
your manufacturer, it may need to be changed to something like "A,
CD-ROM, C" or "A, D, C" ('D' here is another name for the CDROM).
Your goal here is to make sure the 'D' or 'CD-ROM' comes before the
'C'. Exit these settings (make sure to save!) and let your computer
reboot with the CD in the drive. Again, look for the message that
says "Push enter to boot from CD". If your computer still boots
normally, give me exactly what you did in a "request for
clarification" and I'll help you further.

Good luck!
