Hi rich21130

It would behoove all of us if you describe
what you have done to attempt to solve the
situation. Without that information we will
invariably repeat what you have tried.

thanks,

I have gone thru all the Windows updates, critical updates, SP's.
Deleted one by one, restarted computer each time to find one that made
a difference. It took several days to do this, and it did not help. I
went into the msconfig, disabled most of the start programs. That did
not help. Tried booting machine in safe mode, nothing. My machine is a
1130 mhz, 30 gig,256 ram. When I first installed this Windows XP Pro,
it worked great. This problem started getting worse as the damn auto
updates started, and critical dates started. Now when I boot up cold,
I can go and have a sandwich, before it compltes.

I have tried all the above, with no success. Have spent many hours
with Microsoft on-line and offline. All they are doing is fishing at
my expense.
I want to thank you all. You all have a, HAPPY DAY, YEAR, AND FUTURE.

Adios folks

It would help if you described at what point the bootup seems to hang
for awhile... There are several screens that get you to a usable XP
box. Is it durring the black screen with white status bar, the next
screen with the colored much smaller status bar, the screen after
that, when you login etc....

It happens during every step of the log in. Iy also happens when
clicking a link. Evening during this program, if I want to post a
comment, there is about a 10 second pause before the link opens. I
REALLY DON'T KNOW WHETHER THE WILL HAPPEN OR NOT. It happens at any
placew where I have to click something.

hi dear!

I'm giving you few steps...try these. Let me know the brand name of
your computer as there are some brand specific problems as well.

1) first of all try to go in commmand prompt by hitting
start->run->then type cmd in there, you will get a dos prompt. type
"sfc/scanonce" without quotes. you should see a message saying
changes will take....restart the computer and it gonna check your
system files for inconsistencies.

2) start->all programs->accessories->system tools->disk cleanup.
choose drive c: hit okay...it would calculate the disk space and after
that you will get a box. check all the check boxes in that box and
hit okay. proceed by clicking yes on the confirmation box. this is
to delete all the temporary files cause XP behaves abnormally because
of these files many a times.

3) to disable updates and error reporting......start->control
panel->switch to classic view if its a category view->double click on
systems. you will get a new window with so many tabs at the top. go
to <advanced tab>. at the bottom there is a button saying error
reporting..click that and disable that. same for updates...there
would be a tab for the same.

4) TO MINIMIZE THE TIME TAKEN FOR BOOTUP FORCIBLY
follow the step 3rd mentioned above and goto advanced tab...at the
bottom under startup and recovery..click settings and in the new
window minize the time for two items (1)time for displaying os list
(should be zero if you are using a single OS) (2)time to display
recovery options (make it 5-10).

EVEN AFTER THESE STEPS, if you are unfortunate enough to fasten your
computer...do let me know...i have many other ways as well.

When XP is running try hitting Ctrl-Alt-Del and bringing up the task
manager,
you can also do this by typing "taskmgr" into the run box from the
start menu.
You might find that your CPU is constantly at 100%. This happened on
my WinXP Pro box due to network connectivity issues. Try to disable
all your network connections and see if that helped. It did for me (I
enabled them later).
To disable network connections click on "my network places" then right
click to bring up the properties box. It will show all your networking
devices. Disable them all by right clicking on them and see if the
problem goes away.

Have you tried running bootvis?

It will tell you where your system is taking time during boot (takes
about 20 minutes to go through a full optimize).

rich21130...

I have a very promising idea as to what it could be,
however, I have noticed that you are not responding
to many of the comments that have been made, and I
will need feedback as to your efforts.
