smooth or chunky?

Can you give us an idea of what sort of answer you are seeking?

As it stands, a researcher would have a hard time knowing whether you
are looking for information (which we can probably find, if we know
precisely what you want,) or whether you are just joking around with
us (which many of us enjoy.)

Hello,

Thank you for your question. Although you are joking around, the
debate between chunky peanut butter and smooth is a war waged long and
without victor. Clashing opinions have forced brother to fight
brother; fathers to disown sons. Then there are those who like both
chunky and smooth and do not affiliate with any single group and are
shunned by both sides, which label them as fickle and wishy-washy.

I myself pledge my allegiance to the Nation of Chunky. It is a proud
and glorious nation, where taste is coupled with texture, and where
tongues don't just tase food, they FEEL it. Our jaws are stronger in
the Nation of Chunky because thorough chewing is required to break
down those yummerful bits of peanut. Those who enjoy smooth might see
it as a hassle, boasting that their peanut butter is easy to eat, and
"refined" but the Nation of Chunky see this as a sign of laziness and
furthermore as a sign of weakness.

Our PB&J sandwiches have a certain honor about them, having been made
with chunky peanut butter, and the bread sits higher having been
lifted by our humble chunks. Our peanut butter cookies have crunch!

But the Nation of Chunky allow those undecided to decide for
themselves, and as such, I refer you to a book written by Heather
Brazier named, "Which Do You Prefer: Chunky or Smooth". It's packed
with statistics and debate fodder which will help you decide what is
right for you *cough*chunky*cough*.

This is a letter I have planned on writing for some time, a letter
that I think is extremely important and one that unmistakably must be
heeded if we are to undo the damage caused by a Peanut Butter and
Jelly Sandwich. Let us note first of all that some irascible numskulls
actually feel that human life is expendable. This is the kind of
muddled thinking that a Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich is
encouraging with his biases. Even worse, all those who raise their
voice against this brainwashing campaign are denounced as craven,
judgmental scrubs. He thinks that trees cause more pollution than
automobiles do. Of course, thinking so doesn't make it so. A Peanut
Butter and Jelly Sandwich's goals represent explicitly his overly
accepting attitude towards overbearing marauders. But there's the rub;
a Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich is doing everything in his power to
make me lose all self-control. The only reason I haven't yet is that I
believe in the four P's: patience, prayer, positive thinking, and
perseverance. His protests are like hothouse plants. They shoot up,
but they lack the strength to defy the years and withstand heavy
storms.

Because of a Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich's ideas, our schools
simply do not teach the basics anymore. Instead, they preach the
theology of wayward authoritarianism. I contend that my objectives
regarding what I call improvident apostates, while far from complete,
will provide you with vital information which a Peanut Butter and
Jelly Sandwich has gone to great lengths to prevent you from
discovering. There's really no other conclusion you can reach. Now
that you've read the bulk of this letter, it should not come as a
surprise that a Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich's values are
exemplary of the forces minorities must fight in their struggle to
achieve equal footing with the rest of the community. However, this
fact bears repeating again and again, until the words crack through
the hardened exteriors of those who would cast the world into nuclear
holocaust. I am referring, of course, to the likes of a Peanut Butter
and Jelly Sandwich.

Thank You.

I think the "smooth or chunky" debate has been going on at least as
long as the "Mary Ann or Ginger" debate.

In some ways, it's essentially the same debate. Sleek or bumpy?

There's a philosophical concept in this somewhere...

Mary Ann... hands down. In an internet poll of 2,054 responses at
howstuffworks.com, a whopping 35.8% chose Mary Ann over 13.5% who
chose Ginger. Surprisingly 30.0% didn't know what the vote was about,
but you can read all about that here:

Are we talking about peanut butter and jelly or women.

I thought PBJ was the initials of a girl you were planning on asking out. =)

I say chunky, even honey-roasted if you want it sweet.

There is a fine purpose for smooth peanut butter - as in cooking
peanut butter cookies. The small bits of peanuts disrupt the shape
and texture of the cookies.
See: http://www.daymented.com/recipes.html#dessert

Smooth is also good for warming in the microwave and dipping chocolate
covered pretzels or bananas into....

Some people have "issues" with nuts, but still like peanut butter.
These are the smooth peanut butter eaters. Consider denture-wearers,
as well.

Always be aware of your peanut butter audience and serve accordingly.
