In most states the government provides the kindergarten for 5 year old students, sometimes only 4 hours per day. Pre-school for 4 year olds of poor families are also government supplied. There are private day care centers for 2,3 and 4 year olds, but few of them meet state requirements for 5 year olds even though most make at least a pretense at being educational. Montessori (sp ?) schools were supposed to be high level schools for 4 year olds and up. Neil |
