Hello Rlee,

Thank you for your question.

Conducting multiple searches for Nathaniel H. Dewey from Unit 92nd NY
Co. “D” gave me no results. I located a Nathaniel H. Dewey from the
92nd NY Co. “H”, which I am confident is the same Nathaniel H. Dewey
you are seeking. All the information coincides (name, middle initial,
the company and place of death) except for the Co. letter which in
many cases can be wrongly transcribed.

Nathaniel H. Dewey, born Jan.1 1838, in Hinesboro, VT, son of Asahel
D. Dewey, and Olive Canfield. He had a younger brother, Franklin D.

Permelia P. Dewey. Nathaniel Dewey enlisted Oct., 1861, and was a
private in the 92nd NY Co. H. He was wounded at the battle of Fair
Oaks VA and died of his wounds at Fortress Monroe VA July 3, 1862.

I am sure you are on the mark. Our records indicate that our great
grand
mother, Eliza Claymore Dewey, was Nathaniel's sister. Her husband
Randall
also had a pension of $30 as a Civil War veteran. After Randall's
death when
my greatgrandmother was pregnant with my grandmother, Elizs's father
Asahal
Dewey, then a widower, came to help take care of Eliza's children
until his death. I have a cousin who lives in Fredricksburg, Va. and I
will ask him to try and locate Nataniel's grave at Fortress Monroe.
This same cousin has been
trying for some time to find a link between these Dewey's and that of
Admiral Dewey. I am sure he would pay to find any verifiable link to
my greatgrandmother
Eliza Claymore Dewey, Nataniel and Asahal
