I'd like web sites that explain and recommend how to plant and nurture
naval orange trees in my backyard. I have 3 trees now and would like
a few more that, in total, would give me fresh oranges all year round.
I live in Los Altos, CA

bookertz,

Thank you for your question regarding raising orange trees. I envy
the fact that you have the weather to allow for the growth of citrus
fruit trees. In California, you can have oranges from November to
September. The two varieties I see coming up are the Washington Navel
and a Valencia Navel. Washington Navel is productive from mid-November
to April; Valencias bear fruit March to September.

There are several excellent sites that cover the growth and care of
orange trees:

TreeHelp.com
http://www.treehelp.com/trees/citrus/index.asp
From seed to fruit, this site covers everything you need to know about
growing and caring for your orange trees.

EasyFruit
http://www.easyfruit.co.uk/oranges/
Covers the different varieties of orange trees and covers alot of
detail about caring for the plants.

Purdue University Horticulture Department
http://www.hort.purdue.edu/newcrop/morton/orange.html
Very detailed information about growing orange trees, but also some
interesting nutritional information about oranges

A recommended book would be Citrus: Complete Guide to Selecting &
Growing More Than 100 Varieties for California, Arizona, Texas, the
Gulf Coast and Florida. You can find it here:

Thanks for your question and enjoy your freshly squeezed juice!
