Would you be satisfied with a recent estimate by a "leading expert on
tigers in India" of the average annual numbers of deaths by tiger
attacks in India?

Yes, that would be fine. Would you also provide me with the reference? Thank you.

The citation that responds to your question is:

"Valmik Thapar, a leading expert on tigers in India, put deaths due to
tiger attacks at about 80 people annually."

The source for the quotation is:
"The Good Earth: Only Local Communities Can Help Conservation," by
Guha Dharmarajan, The Statesman, New Delhi, July 16,2001.

I found the article at the following link:
World Bank: Sustainable Development - A Gateway
http://sdnp.delhi.nic.in/headlines/jul01/16-7-2001-news1.html.

Unfortunately, this link, which worked fine last evening, is not
working this morning. The following is the link to Google's cached
copy of the article. Be sure to copy and paste the whole address into
your browser: http://216.239.37.100/search?q=cache:24mM8DqGji4C:sdnp.delhi.nic.in/headlines/jul01/16-7-2001-news1.html+%22leading+expert+on+tigers+in+india&hl=en&ie=UTF-8

If you have any problems accessing the document, please inform me in
the form of an answer clarification request, and I will be happy to
help.

I was looking for tiger attack fatality numbers in India for the past
10-20 years...80 annually doesn't really tell me too much. Thanks for
your help.

Your response to my question clarification request indicated that a
per-year average estimate would be fine. This per year estimate can
be extrapolated, of course, into an estimate for 10 years (800), 20
years (1600) or anywhere in between.

If you require a specific estimate for each year (instead of for an
average year), I suggest you seek a refund and repost the question.

I do appreciate your seeking clarification instead of rating my answer
as unsatisfactory. I thought that your response to my question
clarification request confirmed that the information I found was
indeed responsive to your question.
