Hello Deadfred,

Are you looking for something other than the purchase limit mentioned
at
  http://www.publicdebt.treas.gov/sav/sbilimit.htm
and the "who can own" information at
  http://www.publicdebt.treas.gov/sav/sbiown.htm

which indicates that the $30,000 annual limit is based on the name and
social security number appearing on the bond?

I can't tell if a family trust would modify that. I would expect the
name and SSN of the trustee to be listed (on behalf of the trust) and
the limit would apply to each trustee so listed.

If this is all you need, please respond so I can make a proper answer.
Thanks.
