Where can I find information on obtaining books, catalogues, service
manuals etc.,concerning fishing reels made by the D.A.M. Quick co. in
West Berlin,Germany and distributed by Quick Corporation of America?
The main company in West Berlin was in business for more than 125
years and I think closed down sometime in the late 70's. Quick
Corporation of America was headquartered in Costa Mesa, California.

Hello daucas-ga,

One interesting thing that I discovered is that Deutsche Angelgeräte
Manufaktur (D.A.M.) appears to still be alive and well in Germany.
They have an active website at http://www.dam.de/ (For a direct link
to the English language website:
http://www.dam.de/DAM00/eneinleitu2.html).

I wasn’t able to find any sign of Quick Corporation of America. I did
find several references to D.A.M ORCA Distributors Inc. in British
Columbia, Canada as distributors of D.A.M. Quick Reels.

I found the following contact information:

ORCA Distributors
Juergen Bayer
1690 P Maple Street
Campbell River, BC V9W 3G2
1-877-370-3326
(604) 608-3325
info@damyl.com
http://www.damyl.com

(Information found at Sea-Ex Australia,
http://www.sea-ex.com/wholesaletackl/tackle.htm)

However, the toll free number is disconnected and the website is a
dead link, so I’m guessing that they are not in business any more.

Regarding books, catalogs, manuals, etc. I had some luck.

The Cardinal Guy's “Vintage Spinning Reel Information Site” lists
several D. A. M. Quick Owner’s manuals available for download
(http://www.cardinalguy.com/Quickmain.htm).

Manuals for the following reels are listed:

110; 280 Finessa; 220; 330; 270; 440; 550

The Old Reel Collectors Association
(http://www.orcaonline.org/library.htm) lists the following documents
in their library:

“#82 DAM-QUICK 101-202-303-404-505-(N) 19 PAGES

#162 DAM 1997 REELS ONLY 18 PAGES

#163 DAM 1998 REELS ONLY 5 PAGES”

Guffster.com (http://www.guffster.com/qparts.htm) provides a parts
diagram for the “D.A.M. Quick 700/800 Champion.

I wasn’t able to identify any books on specifically on the subject of
D.A.M. Quick reels. I did find the following book that may be of value
to you:

Antique & Collectible Fishing Reels: Identification, Evaluation, and
Maintenance by Harold Jellison, Daniel B. Homel
Publisher: Forrest Park Pub; ISBN: 1879522136; 2nd edition (July 1,
1998)

I hope you have found this information helpful. Please request
clarification prior to rating the question if any of the information
that I have provided is not clear, or if you have any questions.

I forgot to mention that the Old Reel Collectors Association requires
you to be a member to access the documents in their library.

Membership fees are as follows:

"ORCA Membership - USA, $25.00
