Hello again Qpet and thank you for your question about statistics.

=================================================
1) Change in percentage of homeowners in the U.S.
   from 1950-2000.
=================================================

“Since the 1950 census, when homeowners represented 55 percent of all
householders, the rate of homeownership has increased steadily. By
1960, because of the post-World War II economic boom, favorable tax
laws and easier mortgage financing, homeownership topped 60
percent.Homeownership is at 66.2 percent in 1999.

“The last 50 years have seen dramatic growth in homeownership. Just 44
percent of Americans owned a residence in 1940, while today more than
two-thirds have achieved homeownership. Growth in the number of
households is the largest source of residential construction demand,
accounting for over 70 percent of homebuilding activity during the
last decade. “

2) Average cars ownership per household 1950 vs.2000
=======================================

“Household vehicle ownership shows a dramatic increase from 1960 to
1990.  In 1960, nearly 79% of households owned less than two vehicles;
by 1990, it declined to 45%. Census data prior to 1990 indicated that
the majority of households owned one vehicle; in 1990 that changed to
two vehicles.”

“Multiple vehicle ownership was not common until the 1950s, but by the
end of the century, nearly half of car-owning families had two or more
vehicles. More than 90 percent of American households had at least
one. Nine of every ten journeys to work were made in private
automobiles.”

3) Average number of hours worked 1900 vs. 2000

conditions in the United States in 1900 and a hundred years later, in
2000.

These brief excerpts are taken from the PBS website – The First
Measured Century

“Daily and weekly work hours declined until World War II, but annual
work hours continued to decline moderately throughout the century.”

“In 1890, the typical factory work schedule was ten hours a day, six
days a week, for a total of sixty hours. Thereafter, it fell steadily,
reaching thirty-five hours per week in 1934.

(..)

“The average factory work-week climbed to forty-five hours at the peak
of production during World War II, declined to forty hours after the
war, and remained at that level until the early 1980s, when it began
to inch upward. By 1999, the average manufacturing employee worked
about forty-two hours per week.”

(..)

“Unlike weekly and daily hours, annual work hours continued to decline
slowly because of longer vacations, more sick and parental leave, and
time off for obligations such as voting, jury duty, and military
reserve service.”
