Question ID: 144859
I’m looking for a list of people and/or companies who have bought a
power supply used for orbital welding in the past 2-3 years.
Specifically looking for companies that have bought the AMI Model 207
or 107.

Each buyer should have a name, phone, and location. I’m not sure how
many there are, but a list of 10-20 people would be great.

If you need more information or have other questions, please ask.
This is my first question to ask Google Answers, so any info or tips
would be appreciated. I'm not sure my price is good, please inform.
Obviously, it can always be higher :)

Thanks

Hello Needhelp (I like the name!). The information you are looking
for may be very difficult to come by -- few manufacturers make
available their customer lists. I have found information on around 10
companies that have made recent use of the AMI equipment you
mentioned, but that doesn't mean they purchased it recently. Are you
interested in that sort of information? Names and phone numbers and
addresses are sometimes available, sometimes not.

I don't want to dissuade you from seeking this information, nor
dissuade other researchers from looking for it. But in my experience,
it's hard to come by. If you don't get what you're after in a few
days time, you might want to consider loosening some of your
parameters, so that researchers can find what *is* available and get
it to you.

Thanks pafalafa-ga,

I would think that people/companies that use those machines, have
bought it or know people who have bought it. Basically, if someone is
using them... they should be on the list.

A name and phone number is a must, a state or address is a plus.

Question on researching to find the answer:
I'm not sure how Google Answer researchers find answers, but I did
some "creative" searching on Google and found a couple of companies
I'm looking for. I'm curious, are the researchers "more creative" than
most people and therefore can find more/better/faster answers than
most poeple?
I think the answer is yes, which is obvious, because Google Answers is
a GREAT service. I'm amazed at some of the answers here.

Here's what I've got. If this seems satisfactory, let me know and
I'll repost it as a formal answer. And in response to the question
about Google Researchers -- Yeah, we're pretty good...I don't think
there's much more out there on the Internet about users of the AMI
Models 107 and 207.

Weld System

An Arc Machines, Incorporated (AMI) Model 207, 150 A, automatic gas
tungsten arc (GTA) orbital tube welder was used. The vendor modifies
the system by incorporating special inserts so that the container can
be remotely clamped. The system was modified at SRS to accommodate a
"snap-in" rather than a setscrew secured electrode. This modification
significantly simplifies electrode change-out since the production
operators must wear rubber gloves.

Thanks,

Yes, this is good/satisfactory....although, I was hoping for a few
more on the list. You found a couple more than I did :)

You mentioned that you have some people/companies that may not have
address/name/phone...
Could you add those to the list and then submit that as the final
answer?
Any extra names will be very helpful!!!

Also, thanks for your reply about "Google Researchers". I do have a
follow up, if you don't mind. Do researchers have access to the google
database or do you just search for answers the way the public would?

Thanks again for you help!

PS. When I post future questions, can I ask for you?

Needhelp,

Thanks for the vote of confidence.

I had already tracked down names and contact information, and included
them on the list I posted earlier. The only possible addition (and
it's not much of one) is the following result from my Google search:

-----
Pdc Machines, Inc. listings at BuildFind
... Power Supply Model 207A Microprocessor-Controlled Power Supply
Model 107-4A Power
Supply ... with US and International Reps recognized at AMI's 25th
Anniversary ...
www.buildfind.com/texis/db/search/ ?arg=Pdc%20Machines,%20Inc. - 19k -
Cached - Similar pages
-----

Unfortunately, neither the site nor the cache would open up for me.
Could be the company no longer exists, or their website no longer
exists, or there's an odd glitch in the system. Try to link to them
tomorrow and see what happens.

PDC Machines has a site at (oddly enough) [ www.pdcmachines.com ] but
I saw no indication there that they use the type of equipment you are
interested in.

As for your other questions, the Google Researchers do not have any
special access to databases supplied by Google (or anyone else!), but
many of us do have access to other commercially and publicly available
databases that we use freely in our work. And yes, you can request a
particular researcher in the future just by making clear in the text
of your request who you would like to do the work.

Lastly, my search strategy for this was: [ AMI ("Model 207" OR "Model
107") ] and several variations thereof, which I searched on Google and
a few other search engines.

Good luck in your ventures.
