I am looking for a Far Side cartoon with a cockroach laying in an
alley explaining that he was an important person -- president of his
own company -- until someone said he was just a cockroach. I saw this
years ago and have not been able to find it since. A copy of the
cartoon or the title of a Far Side compliation with the cartoon will
be considered a 4 star answer.

I meant that a copy of the cartoon or the title of a Far Side
compliation with the cartoon will be considered a 5 star answer.

Bruce,

Your cartoon is in the original "Far Side Gallery," published in
November 1984.

Although there are many Larson cartoons on the Web (and I had a great
time looking through them,) I could not find this one online. Perhaps
another Researcher will have better luck.

Thanks Pinkfeud. Finding the cartoon on the 'net would have been
ideal, but I have not been able to find it anywhere on the www and i
have looked. Giving me the title of a compilation that included the
cartton was also a suitable answer. You said that the cartoon is in
the original Farside Gallery. If this is correct (and I gather that
it is), you have answered the question with a 5 star answer. Go ahead
and Answer and claim your well-earned fee.

Thanks for the help.

BTW, I ordered Farside Gallery today from Amazon shops.

Thank you for asking such an entertaining question!

Looking through online Larson cartoons was a pleasure, even though I
did not turn up the one about the cockroach business tycoon.

The cartoon, as I mentioned, may be found in the first "Far Side
Gallery" collection which you have ordered from Amazon. I'm sure
you'll be pleased.

I recognized the source of the cartoon because I gave my husband a
copy of "The Far Side Gallery" on our fifth wedding anniversary. He
liked it so much that he has stayed married to me for another 17
years.

Best wishes,
pinkfreud

Well that was the most fun I've had not finding an answer!

Three places it's not:

2002 Farside "Last Impressions" Calendar

"The Prehistory of the Far Side - 10th Anniversary Exhibit", by Gary Larson (1980).

"Bride of the Far Side", Gary Larson (1980)

Better luck (and many laughs) to the next researcher who tries.

It's also not in the Far Side Observer.

As Gary would say,

The cartoon is mentioned here and there is a link to what I think is
the cartoon but unfortunately it doesn't work. Maybe it was my
computer or the time of day. Try it yourself, see if it works.

Thanks for the efforts knowledge_seeker, ericynot and bowler.

BTW, Bowler I had found that reference in the Tuscon newspaper with
bad link before. It is so frustrating to get so close and then the
link it not there.
