A couple I know is about to have their first baby, and I would like to
give the newborn a lifetime subscription to a magazine.

Years ago, the most famous of these offers was for National
Geographic. As I recall, it was something like $350 for a lifetime
subscription.

A great answer would be a list of 3-6 (wide circulation) magazines
that offer lifetime subscriptions.

All comments greatly appreciated!

Yikes. A National Geographic lifetime membership is now $850:

http://shop.nationalgeographic.com/dr/v2/ec_MAIN.Entry17c?CID=61000&pn=5&sp=10007&sid=27698&pid=263954&DSP=&CUR=840&PGRP=0&CACHE_ID=61000

Instead of a magzine subscription, have you considered purchasing a
lifetime membership for a local museum, aquarium, zoo, planetarium, or
such? This would provide a lot of educational value as the child grows
older.
