Mary Ann Ganser sang with the vocal group Shangri-Las in the '60's.
(Hits:Leader of the Pack(#1,'64), Give Him a Great Big
Kiss(#18,'65),Remember Walking In the Sand(#5,'64). She was born in
Oceanside,LI,NY on Nov.8,1947 and died in a Queens,NY hospital,
possibly in 1976 of encephalitis, contracted from a mosquito bite. I
need her date of death.
I just wanted to thank all the researchers who worked on this
question, luciaphile, tutuzdad, thx1138, giana, robertskelton &
boby-d. I was finally able to answer it when I found a website for
the 2 Gansers, with a photo of their Mom and brother, listing where
they lived. I got the tel. # from the operator for the brother, he
gave me his mom's tel. #. I called her & she was very gracious & sent
me Mary Ann's death papers and answered all my questions. Both twins
were born Feb.4, 1948. Mary Ann died March 14,1970. When I mentioned a
mosquito bite, she was taken aback. She said her daughter died of a
barbituate overdose. Her death papers confirmed she had battled heroin
addiction for 2 yrs. So, that question is now put to bed. Although I
can't credit anyone for the answer, I thought you might like to know
the answer. It's been such a pleasure and joy to work with you
guys. You have all my admiration for your skills. I just wanted to
let you all know how grateful I am for so much amazing help. This is
one of the most fun things I've ever done! I had searched for these
answere myself for a long while with no luck. I hope to keep using
Google Answers regularly. If anyone wishes to try expired questions,
I'll be glad to work with them. I do not know how long they are
allowed to stay posted before they're taken down. I love you guys!
Thanks so much for helping me!!! bluestreak

I guess you don't need the year of death anymore. How odd though, the
site I found said she died in 1970 of encephalitis. "... both Gansers
have passed away: Mary Ann from encephalitis in 1970, and Margie from
cancer in 1996..."

I'm glad you got official corroboration from a reliable source.

I hope this finds you well, bluestreak! :)

Hi revbrenda1st,
Long time no hear! I hope you are well old friend! I finally
got closure on this one. Two books and countless online sources were
all wrong. But her Mom sent me the medical papers. How many Moms
would do that for a stranger! I was so grateful. Thank you for all
your help along the way revbrenda1st. You answered Benny Benjamin and
Ruth Clarke, plus contributed to Pete Nugent, Loretta Abbot and Emil
Hauser. So I am so aware of your help. Who knows, I will in all
probability, use google answers in the future. I look forward to our
speaking again at some point. bluestreak
