alexanderhamilton,

There are various databases for "expert witnesses" in the fields you
have mentioned. However, when you mention an "A-rating," please tell
me what rating organization you are referring to. Then I can be sure I
am on the right track.

 Thanks!

By "A-List" we simply mean those recognized as being the leading experts in
their fields. Sorry for the confusion.

Hello, alexanderhilton-ga!

I am posting the information I have found thus far. I have a bit more
work to do concerning some specific expert witnesses, especially as
they relate to the issues surrounding adoption.

Please have a look at my list thus far, and tell me if you feel the
two sections on Child abuse and Child Custody Evaluations are
adequate. I will work to complete the other areas tomorrow, as names
are taking a bit of time to pin down. Suprisingly, expert witnesses
for spousal abuse are harder to find than I thought they would be, as
well!

I will post what I have and be back to finish this up first thing
tomorrow! In the meanwhile, if you have changed any of the specifics
that you are looking for, please let me know via a clarification.

Each witness must be renowned within the academic psychological
community. In other words, if there is a definitive text regarding
Ethics and Codes of Conduct within Psychology, we want their contact
information.

Hopefully this will help you refine your focus a bit tighter. Thank
you!

Clarification of Answer by umiat-ga on 11 Mar 2003 08:44 PST
alexanderhilton,

I'd better get this perfectly straight before I continue. I have been
focusing on expert witnesses who have actually been listed and
advertised as experts in their field by legal databases and individual
searches. That is very different than a psychologist who is considered
the "best in their field" but may not be willing to hire on as an
expert witness. There are many excellent psychologists in each of the
areas you have listed that do not serve as expert witnesses in the
courtroom.

Are you saying that you want me to provide you with the contact
information for individuals who:

"are renowned within the academic psychological community" but may
not be listed, or expressed expertise or willingness, to serve as an
expert witness in any capacity?

Are you also saying that you want their names associated with some
type of "definitive text regarding Ethics and Codes of Conduct within
Psychology" that might exist, highlighting expert witnesses?

If that is what you are seeking, I doubt I will be able to find a
text which highlights the best expert witness in each of these fields,
since individuals are advertised as experts, hired by individual law
firms, and not given any type of *rating* by the legal and
psycological community that I would know about. I imagine that type of
information is available more by "word of mouth."

If that is the type of standard you need identified with these
individuals, I think will need someone within the legal community,
familiar with these specific individuals, to give you names
first-hand. I don't think there is any public manual (available to me,
online or offline) that would give me specific names up to the
standards you are seeking.

I will wait for your clarification on these issues. If I am correct
in my assumptions about what you desire, exactly, I will have to
withdraw my answer thus far. I am sure I cannot find the specific
names you are seeking and be assured that they are the absolute best
in their field. There are often several expert witnesses testifying
about the same issues in a trial, as I'm sure you know. That fact, in
itself, points to bias about who is the best.

After considering my clarification, please let me know if you want me
to proceed and complete my answer, or go ahead and withdraw it?

 Thanks!

 umiat

Hello Umiat,

Thank you for your request for further clarification. We are indeed
looking for those recognized as being the leading experts in their
respective fields--NOT simply those who have listed themselves in an
expert witness database. (In our experience, psychologists renowned
within the academic psychological community generally are eager to
serve as expert witnesses, even if they haven't enrolled themselves in
'expert witness' databases."

For an outstanding example of what we are seeking, please see
websearcher-ga's answer to our earlier question at
http://answers.google.com/answers/main?cmd=threadview&id=173321.

Thank you.

psychologists, or leading psychiatrists as well?

Hello Umiat-ga,
Thank you for your insightful question. Please DO include leading psychiatrists.

Clarification of Answer by umiat-ga on 12 Mar 2003 00:24 PST
Hello again, alexanderhilton!

Thank you for your patience and willingness to work with me to
develop a better understanding of the material you wanted. I found
this to be a fascinating project. The more I researched, the more
involved I became in trying to find the best experts for the "job."

I have refined my search to include *only* those experts who have
extensive experience and peer recognition in the areas you have
mentioned. Therefore, this final answer will serve to replace my
previous post.

Since the specialties often overlap, I have put individuals under
various headings, depending on what areas of specialty align with your
criteria. I followed the format you highlighted from the answer to
your previous question, since you seemed to like that presentation of
the material.

The "experts" follow!!

"The Psychology of Adoption." Edited by DAVID M. BRODZINSKY and
MARSHALL D. SCHECHTER
"Recent empirical work has shown that adopted children are more
vulnerable to a host of psychological and school-related problems
compared to their non-adopted peers. The rate of referral of adopted
children to mental-health facilities is far above what would be
expected given their representation in the general population.
However, our understanding of the basis of these problems remains
unclear. In this work, David Brodzinsky, who has conducted one of the
largest studies of adopted children, along with Marshall Schechter, a
child psychiatrist, has brought together a group of leading
researchers from various disciplines to explore the complex,
interdisciplinary subject of adoption. Theoretical, empirical,
clinical, and social policy issues offer new insights into the
problems facing parents of adopted children and especially the
children themselves. The book is a comprehensive study and will be of
interest to child psychiatrists, developmental and clinical
psychologists, social workers, and social service providers."
