Hello Researchers! Some friends and I will be participating in the 2003 Race for the Cure in Sacramento, CA in May of this year. We're looking for a fun, catchy yet meaningful name for our team. Most teams that enroll together are work colleagues or something like that, so they would use their company name. However, our team will most likely be a mismash of men, women, coworkers, friends, survivors, etc. so we need something that would encompass a wide range of people. Race for the Cure, if you don't already know, is a run/walk that raises funds for breast cancer research and treatment. The theme this year is "Together for the Cure." Can you help me come up with a few options for team names? | |

Hi Susan, There were so many great suggestions. Thank you and your teammates so very much. I hope the name brings you and your teammates lots of luck and great health - always. Incidentally, if you want to tip anyone, all you need to do is open another question and put their name in the subject line. One of us will alert them (as feilong-ga just alerted me - thanks!). Best wishes, Your TaxMama-ga |

Combining the use of pink ribbons with the animal imagery used by activist groups such as the Black Panthers and the Gray Panthers, I suggest "The Pink Panthers." |

If you need musical inspiration for your team, I suggest the beautiful song "Runner," by Manfred Mann's Earth Band: Through the night, through the dawn, Behind you another runner is born. Don't look back, you've been there; Feel the mist as your breath hits the air. And it's underneath the moonlight Passing some, Still your heart beats in the moonlight Like a drum, And you will run your time, A shooting star across the sky, And you will surely cross the line To pass on the flame. Sun come up, sun go down. Hear the feet, see the sweat on the ground. Watch your step, keep your cool, Though you can't see what's in front of you. And it's underneath the moonlight Passing some, Still your heart beats in the moonlight Like a drum, And you will run your time, A shooting star across the sky, And you will surely cross the line... |

Pink, I would accuse you of nepotistic naming except that the idea fits so well! :) |

A co-worker just suggestion the following (question - does this work? will people get the reference? or is it slightly too ballsy for such an event?) "They're Real and They're Spectacular" -Susan |

Susan, I can't speak for others, but as a woman who has undergone reconstructive surgery on one breast, I feel a bit uncomfortable about the slogan "They're Real and They're Spectacular." For some of us, only one of them is real. :-( ~Pink |

You know what, Pink - you are entirely right. I had not yet considered that aspec,t and I agree that in that light it's probably not appropriate. Thanks for your opinion! Susan |

I rather like the name "Front Runners," except that perhaps it might call too much attention to the chestworks of the gals on the team. ;-) |

Thanks to all for such wonderful suggestions! I posed all suggestions to my teammates and everyone seemed to have an affinity for the name "Cure4Sure" -- so that's it! taxmama-ga -- please post your answer to claim the fee. And if possible, a big tip would go out to all who offered such creative names. Thanks again! Susan |

"...our team will most likely be a mismash of men, women, coworkers, friends, survivors, etc. so we need something that would encompass a wide range of people..." How about the name TRAIL MIX? Ever eat any trail mix? I you have then you know what I mean. I tickled myself. tutuzdad-ga |
