I am looking for prestigious/competitive internships (stipends or
hourly wage)that begin this summer and possibly extend into the school
year. The program should be related to math/science and _preferably_
research-oriented as opposed to clerical work or classroom based.
Here is some info. about me, for context: currently a high school
junior going into senior year, weighted GPA 4.0+, most SAT scores
average in high percentile, a number of after school activities
including sports. I live close to Stanford in California so the
internship should be within reasonable driving distance( <90 min ).
Please take into account any deadlines for applications in your
answer. Thank you.

Seeing as how the summer has already nearly begun, most programs are
no longer accepting applications.

blitex,

I could probably help you here, but I need a little more preference
info. What type of area would you like to be interning in?
Engineering, biomedical research, etc. There are litereally hundreds
of thousands of positions available, even probly at this late of a
date, but it's much easier to find them if you know more specifically
whhere to look. This is because, here's some advice I've found that
Answers won't help you with, the best way to find these types of
positions is not through the web or posted internship listings. Find
a place that sounds interesting to you, be it a research university, a
private company, or whatever, find the person in charge of the
department you're interested in, an email them very politely and
explain who you are and what you're looking for. You'd be suprised at
the results. (By the way, if you'd like help with that locating
people part, THAT is something a researcher could probably help with.)
Keep two things in mind: yes it is fairly late to be looking for an
internship such as this (the type of internship you're looking for is
probably something mostly a college student would be looking for, and
all of us are luckily finished with school already ;) ) You would
need to be sending out these emails I'm talking about probably in
February or March. Second, have faith in the emails- if you get a
response from 1 out of 5 of the people you sent something to, consider
yourself lucky. But it can be pretty productive.

Hope this helps, good luck, and if you would like some legitimate
researcher Answers for anything else, let me know.
