Hello - thanks for your question.

In Islam, a child's religion is determined by the father's.
According to Islamic law, the child of a Muslim father must be raised
as a Muslim.

"Your children have to be raised according to their Muslim father's
religion: Islam."

"The Sharia (Islamic Law) states that in mixed marriages "the children
will follow the better of the two religions of their parents", which [
. . . ] is considered Islam. The Quran states that Islam is the only
true religion, "The religion before Allah is Islam" Surah 3:19."

"MIXED MARRIAGES

With few exceptions, a Christian or Jew who marries a Muslim and
resides in an Islamic country will be subject to provisions of Islamic
family law in that country. In these circumstances:

-- Any children born to the wife will be considered Muslim. They will
usually also be considered citizens of the father's country."

The children of such a mixed marriage belong to the husband, and must
be raised Muslim (this is why a Muslim woman may not marry a
non-Muslim).

In the Islam religion [ . . ] the children must be raised Muslim.
Under Islam, the Muslim father does not have a choice. [ . . ] I asked
my Muslim love what would happen if we chose to not raise our children
Muslims, he answered, "then I'm not Muslim." That's the bottom line.

Well, this comment is not intended to be a guidance to other links on
the web for further research, but mainly a moslem's answer to your
question because I felt by reading the answers that some key elements
are not stressed.
In islam, the parents (be it father or mother*)have the religious
obligation to raise their children with the islamic faith, but this
does not imply that you are a moslem by inheritance. Each individual,
once reaching adulthood, has the obligation (morally and before God)
to be intimately convinced (and hence seek conviction)of his/her
islamic faith.
In a nutshell, claimming to be a moslem just because your parents are,
is not enough before God. You must be convinced with your faith.

If you want further details, please tell me and I will do further
research.

*: That's one of the reasons wemen in islam can't marry non moslems -
Though I am not really sure if that's the opinion of the majority of
scholars-. Because it would make it very hard for her to follow her
moral convictions, and raise her kids according to her faith, if her
husband objects to this.
