Years ago, in the 1960's, when I was a kid, I first saw an old movie,
on television, in which the actor, who I still think was Lee J. Cobb,
played the part of a washed-up doctor, begging for money from a
stranger, in India, I believe, when he recalled his lamented career
saying, "Johns Hopkins Medical School, Chief of Surgery, etc., etc."

Because I never saw the whole movie, I can't remember the name of
it. I have seen it a few more times over the years, but only that
same brief sequence and never the whole movie. Lee J. Cobb had a
distinct quality to his voice and he is best remembered for his role
as the loud-mouthed boss of the old Flint Movies. Remember him
yelling, "Flint's alive! Did you hear that? FLINT'S ALIVE!" I
compared him to the washed-up doctor's voice and they matched, so I am
still sure it was LJ Cobb afterall.

I want to know how his role ended in that old movie. Hollywood
Historians can't identify it nor can Movie Authorities figure it out,
so can you tell me what movie it was, which predated the mid-1960's,
of course, then how his role ended?

It has been a trivia question of mine for years.

Oddly, someone else seems to be seeking information about the same
movie, but this person recalls Dick Powell as the doctor:

"I have a friend who is asking for the title of a Dick Powell movie.
Here is how he worded it:

I saw an old movie, which included the late-Actor/Director, Dick
Powell, in which his role was that of a homeless man, begging for
money, etc, and a former doctor, too. As soon as he was asked about
his former status as a physician, he wept and replied, 'JOHNS HOPKINS
SCHOOL OF MEDICINE, Chief of Surgery...' It was situated in India, I
beleive, but I can't remember the title of that movie.

Does this ring a bell with anyone? I couldn't find any movies listed
with IMDb which sounded like this at all, but it may have been just a
small part of the film."
