A keyword search for "Chicago Construction News" comes up with a
publication that appears to have been produced some time ago, and as
far as I can tell, is not currently produced. The question is: When
did this publication operate, and where, if anywhere, can one find
back issues?

There is a publication called: Dodge Construction News -- Chicago,
also sometimes referred to as Chicago Dodge Construction News:

http://dodge.construction.com/Reports/Print/Newspapers.asp

Might this be what you're after...? If not, please give us a bit more
context, if you can -- where did you hear of this publication? What
makes you think it was produced "some time ago"? Any additional
information would be a help.

No, the dodge construction news is not the one. Actually it is the
"Chicago Construction News referenced by Bobbie7-ga. But the question
remains, exactly when was it published, and where can I view back
issues?

Thanks Bobbie7,
I think the answer here will be found in the Chicago Public Library or
perhaps the Illinois state library.

Marbuck,

I believe the Chicago Historical Society may have the publications you
require.

“The Historical Society's collection of published materials is
available for study in the Research Center. These holdings include:
more than 66,000 books and pamphlets; 14,000 volumes of periodicals;
3,500 volumes of newspapers; 1,500 scrapbooks composed newspaper
clippings; 10,000 maps and atlases; 5,700 pieces of sheet music; and
11,000 reels of microfilm that include the major Chicago daily
newspapers, city and telephone directories, and dissertations.”

Well, it took some sleuthing, finally tracking down a relative of the
late Mr. Wayman in Ohio. "Chicago Construction News" was indeed a
F.W. Dodge publication, so the comment from pafalga-ga turns out to
have been right. I leave it to the researachers about compensation
for this answer. Bobbie7 did provide the obit that (with further
research on my part, including searching Ohio corporate records) led
to Mr. Wayman. Neither the Chicago Public Library nor the Chicago
Historical Society had anything on the topic.

Hello Marbuck,

I’m glad that the information that Pafalga-ga and myself provided you
in our clarifications and comments finally led you to the "Chicago
Construction News" publication.

You don’t have to worry about compensation as we talked and worked it
out between ourselves.

Best regards,

Thanks. I suppose I should give myself 5* as well because the
tracking down of Mr. Wayman's relative took some creativity. A true
team effort.

Hello marbuck-ga,

From the information below it appears that “Chicago Construction News”
was a publication from the 1940’s and the editor at that time was
Charles A. Wayman Jr.

Housing and Rent Act of 1948
Public Interest Representatives
Charles A. Wayman, Jr. Editor, Chicago Construction News
http://tigger.uic.edu/~wplotk1/rent/rc3.html

Charles A. Wayman, Jr. was a member of the Builders' Club.
http://tigger.uic.edu/~wplotk1/rent/rcnotes.html

Charles A. Wayman, Jr. Obituary:

“WAYMAN Funeral service for Charles A. Wayman, 83, will be held at
10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First Congregational Church, 766 Graceland Ave.,
Des Plains. Born October 2, 1916 in Cape Girardeau, Mo., he died
Monday, April 17, 2000 in Stuart, Fla. Burial will be in Ridgewood
Cemetery, Des Plaines. Prior to marriage, he and his family were long
time residents of Grandview from where he graduated from high school
prior to attending Ohio State University. His wife, the former Betty
Crane, graduated from Upper Arlington and also attended OSU. Charles
had two Columbus brothers-in-law, Robert S. Crane (deceased) and
Jameson Crane. Charles Wayman was a man of many facets who hardly ever
saw a stranger and thus made friends wherever he went, which, he once
boasted, included every state except North Dakota. Though Chuck was an
accomplished organizer and leader, he yet had the soul of a creative,
independent person, and a gifted writer. His business career stretched
for 40 years, including an interruption, from jobs as a construction
news reporter, to newspaper and magazine editor, to copy director and
general manager of advertising - 28 years of it with United States
Gypsum of Chicago.”

I hope this helps.
