Jr72 --

It would benefit a researcher enormously if you could like the
country/state/city and an approximate year for the killing or trial.
I did a quick check of an American national newspaper database and
could find no reference to either person.

Best regards,

There are a number of articles on this case and upcoming trial in
recent issues of the Fresno Bee. The easiest way to see a listing of
the articles is to go the Newspaper Library site at:

www.newslibrary.com

and click on California on the map of the states, and then click on
the Freso Bee under the "California" list of newspapers.

Enter these terms in the search box: farias guzman

and click on Search.

You should get a list of seven articles -- you have to pay a fee to
see the full articles, but you can look at the first few sentences for
free. For instance, the first listing begins:

---------------------------

Published on June 28, 2003, Fresno Bee, The (CA)

Man to stand trial in girlfriend's slaying
Visalia man's parents also will go on trial on charges of accessory
after a murder.

A 22-year-old Visalia man will go to trial on charges of killing his
girlfriend, Dina Guzman, who allegedly tried to end their relationship
the night she died.

Tulare County Superior Court Judge Patrick O'Hara ruled Friday that
there is enough evidence for Martin Farias to stand trial on
first-degree murder charges with a gun enhancement. If convicted,
Farias could spend a maximum of 50 years to life in prison...

----------------------------

Not all the other articles have an obvious connection to the case in
the first few sentences, but the last article on the list clearly
does:

----------------------------

May 22, 2003, Fresno Bee, The (CA)

Visalia woman, 19, fatally shot
Family grieves as police seek boyfriend for questioning.

A 19-year-old Redwood High School graduate described as the "goodness"
in her family was fatally shot late Tuesday in a north Visalia home
she shared with her boyfriend and his family.

Dina Guzman was taken to Kaweah Delta Hospital, where she died.
Visalia police are looking for her boyfriend, Martin Farias, 22....

----------------------------

These articles should give you the information you're looking for, but
if anything here is not clear, or needs elaboration, just let me know
by posting a Request for Clarification, and I'll be glad to help you
further.

search strategy:

searched Lexis-Nexis for the Martin Farias and Dina Guzman which
identified the Fresno Bee as a source of information. Then searched
the NewsLibrary site as indicated above.
