Hi, this is sharondoyle...You sent to me a list of all Readers Digest
Condensed Books and you told me that you were in contact with a
Readers Digest researcher who expected to give you an answer within a
few weeks about the title of a book I am looking for. Have you heard
from RD yet? Many thanks for your help.

Hello iampersnickety,

I have received two replies from Reader's Digest so far, and things do
not look so good at the moment. The last reply I heard was on July 28,
and I was told by the reader's digest that they would try one more
time to go through their databases and attempt to find the answer.
Here are the two failed replies I have received so far:

----------------------------

First, I must apologize for the delay it took me to provide you with
an answer: we literally get hundreds of requests. Unfortunately, our
index does not list any such particular article ever published. I am
sorry I cannot help you regarding this matter.

Although I have paid full attention to the given details, I will be
glad to look for it again if you ever come up with any other relevant
detail (name, particular city, even a specific advertising...).

Please allow me to thank you for your dedicated readership.

--------------------------------------

Our index covers all the editions of our magazine, and it includes
Condensed Books and Book Sections. I checked very closely the
description you provided us with, but could not find a reference to it
in our index.

Thank you for your readership,

--------------------------------------

Hopefully the third researcher will be able to turn up something. If
you have come up with any other details yet, please let me know and I
will pass them along.

All the best,

tisme-ga

Well I thank you once again for your continued help. The only other
thing I can possibly think of is that the book/article was definitely
non-fiction rather than a novel as are/were so many of the books
published in the magazine itself. Reading the response from the
second researcher, I wonder if the "index [that] covers all the
editions of [their] magazine" is available for you and I to look at.
If it were perhaps that would help. I know I didn't dream this.
Readers Digest years ago actually sent me the pages torn from an old
issue. If the "third" researcher doesn't come up with anything I'll
give it a rest. Many thanks again!

Tisme-ga: One other thing. The second researcher referred to
"condensed books and BOOK SECTIONS". The list you obtained for me was
strictly "condensed books". Perhaps they have a list of books
published in the "book section". If you think that is so, I will
re-list my question and offer more money for the answer. Only fair.
Thanks again and kindest regards.

Sorry for the delay iampersnickety,

I was expecting a faster response, but it might longer to find out if
we can obtain the entire list. I am also expecting an email from one
of the original researchers on what he/she thinks we should do at this
point.

I don't think there is any need for you to post a new question. I am
going to do all I can to get this done for you as part of the original
question as promised. If I fail, you might want to try relisting it
and have another researcher try, but I have not yet given up!

All the best,

tisme-ga

This note should go to tisme-ga.....
I think I may have found it. Suffice it to say that via online
communication they sent me a list of possible articles among which I
believe I may have found what I'm looking for. Seems they still have
a back issue and will send it to me for $4. Should take two to four
weeks to receive it. The name of the article is "When Life on Earth
Began", published in the December 1961 issue. Keep your fingers
crossed. I'll let you know if this is what I've been looking for.
Again, thanks for all your help. Sharon Doyle

I am crossing my fingers for you!!! I do hope that this is the article
you were looking for. Please keep me updated!

I still have not heard back from the researcher I had been waiting for
a response from. The only communication I had received since the last
time I updated you was from a researcher who thought that a thoughtful
written letter with as much detail as possible could be mailed to
Reader's Digest as you had the previous time.

Glad things are looking up for you in regards to this question. :)

I have a comlete list of all volumes from vol 1 to vol 268 with all
the titles contained in the USA editions. It is quite lengthy - almost
1200 lines in an Excel file. Email me if you want this forwarded to
you.

This answer is for alysha-ga......

Your offer is a kind one but I would ask your forbearance in one
respect. I have had a conversation with Reader's Digest and they are
in the process of forwarding to me an issue that contains an article
the title of which sounds very promising: When Life On Earth Began.
If this is not the article I've been looking for, I'll write to you
and ask that you send the list to me.
Thank you very much for your help.

This is for tisme-ga: I received the December 1961 issue of Reader's
Digest and the article in question was not what I am looking for. But
I am more certain than ever that what I am looking for was in the
"Book Section" in the back of the magazine. I believe the problem
lies in the fact that the lists of condensed Reader's Digest books
that we are dealing with contain books that were sold by Reader's
Digest other than and in addition to those published in the "Book
Section" of each issue. What do you think the chances are that we
could find a list of just the "Book Section" books from say 1960
through 1975? I reiterate that I am willing to pay dearly for this.
Thanks again.
