I am a Chicago White Sox baseball fan. And the Chicago White Sox play
ball on the south side of Chicago near 35th and State St. My question
is this, where are the best (or considered the best) "White Sox"
sports bars to hang out and watch the games? Due to the neighborhood
and parking, etc. I don't know of any bar "right across from the
park", etc. And the White Sox, being a South Side ballclub, would
probably have more sports bars near the south side than north side (my
guess there would be some good ones in the Bridgeport community just
west of the park?).

Anyway, I have a two-fold question then; Where are the best sports
bars within proximity of the ballpark (ie. walking distance), and then
where are best White Sox sports bars in the greater chicagoland area?
(please keep in mind that the "other" chicago ballclub is insidious
and they have sports bars that "cater" to them everywhere...)

Thanks!

Zoomie --

Mr. Reinsdorff's team site at MLB.com also has a list of suggestions,
including 9 different saloons in the area (and a number of other
restaurants with bars):
Chicago White Sox
"Neighborhood Fare" (April 9, 2001)
http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/cws/ballpark/cws_ballpark_localinfo.jsp

Please note that this later page has the official name of the park:
"The White Sox are part of a uniquely historic Chicago neighborhood
filled with excellent eating and drinking establishments. In and
around Comiskey Park. . ."

The White Sox page mentions these 9 bars:

Bernice & John's Place
3238 S. Halsted St.

Catcher's
901 W. 35th St.

Dugan's Bar
128 S. Halsted St.

First Base
3201 S. Normal Ave.

Jimbo's
3258 S. Princeton Ave.

Puffer's
3356 S. Halsted St.

Punchinello's
234 W. 31st St.

Shinnick's
3758 S. Union Ave.

The Show Sports Club
3503 S. Halsted St.

And with a little research on Chicago-area establishments, we quickly
come up with:
Barfly Newspaper
Moose Skowron's (Cicero)
http://www.barflynews.com/reviews/call_me_moose.htm

Citysearch recommends four places on the South Side:
Citysearch
"White Sox Bars" (undated)
http://chicago.citysearch.com/feature/15841/1.6.html

There are a couple of good online sites for Chicago-area bars:
The Tap -- Chicago's Bar Journal
http://www.thetapchicago.com/tapNews.php

The above-mentioned site:
Barfly Newspaper

For a refined opinion on the finest Chicago-area and stadium-area
activities it's best to check with experts on sports message boards.
The White Sox have several active message boards:

White Sox Interactive
"The Parking Lot" is the most-relevant area for this discussion (and
they have a live one on steakhouses)
http://www.whitesoxinteractive.com/vbulletin/index.php?s=

This site will require registration but once in, you'll want to do one
of two things:
1. do a site search, using Google's advanced search capabilities
2. post a query to the group

EzBoards
Chicago White Sox Forum
http://insiders3.ezboard.com/fchicagowhitesoxfrm1

Google search strategy:
-- use of sports message boards. I'd have suggested the Chicago
Tribune message boards too, but the Tribune Company owns the
team-that-cannot-be named:
White Sox Message Boards
http://forums.prospero.com/sp-sox

-- "White Sox" + bars
-- "White Sox" + bars + suburbs
-- "White Sox" + bars + "south side"

Best regards -- and remember the last two words of the "Star Spangled
Banner,"
