Hi, 
In Win 98, ME, XP I can enter 'msconfig' in RUN and edit the items
that auto-load at startup, but this is not available in Win 2000? Is
there a way to access them in Win 2000. I'd even be happy to delete
these programs from the registry if I new what folder they were in.
I don't care how I do it, I just want to purge a bunch of them!

Hello there tucsonjim!

Oddly enough, Windows 2000 does not come with a program that  has the
same functionality as "msconfig". There are a few options though.

I recommend downloading "Startup Control Panel". It is a very simple
program that allows you to edit which programs run when Windows
starts.

A different approach would to use the Services tool that comes with
Windows 2000. To do this click:

Start Menu > Run

And then type: "services.msc". No quotes of course.

You'll then see a list of all the Services installed. (Services just
means programs) You can stop a service by right-clicking on it and
choosing "Stop". You can permanently disable a service by
right-clicking on it, choosing "properties", then under "startup type"
choosing either "manual" or "disabled".

Although I would recommend downloading "Startup Control Panel", as
opposed to editing Services, as there are many Services which are
system critical and can cause problems if not running.

I forgot to mention, here are the registry keys that specify which
programs run at startup:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \SOFTWARE \Microsoft \Windows \CurrentVersion
\RunOnce
HKEY_CURRENT_USER \Software \Microsoft \Windows \CurrentVersion \Run
HKEY_CURRENT_USER \Software \Microsoft \Windows \CurrentVersion
\Runonce

I'll assume you understand how to use the registry. But please let me
know if you need any explaining.
