I inherited a newish toshiba tablet pc. it is the convertable model
with a keyboard, but you can swivel the monitor over and make it a
tablet. I never do. i only use it as a normal keyboarded computer.
I can't do 2 things that normal windows xp pcs can do.
1# - I can not double click on anything on my desktop (or anywhere
else in windows explorer) to open it. This is driving me nuts when
trying to launch program or open folders. I have to right click on
select open. When I try to double click it bring up the windows
search windows.
#2 - I can't right-mouse-button drag. When i do it tries to draw some
kind of blue line or something.
How can these be fixed? How can i disable all the tablet junk that i
will never use. I looked briefly at the toshiba utils that came on
there and saw no solutions.
help!
thanks in advance, |

Hi Sherpaj,
Have you tried using another mouse? Perhaps the left mouse button has
become defective.
Have you tried adjusting the mouse click speed? You can find it in
Control Panel.

i am using the built-in trackpad. this also happens using VNC screen
sharing software, so i suspect it is not hardware related.

sherpaj-ga:
Could you please identify for us what mouse/stylus driver is installed
and in use in the system? To do this, please go to the Control Panel
(Start>Control Panel), then open the Mouse icon (I almost said
double-click... but that's the problem, isn't it!), and see if there
is a tab identifying the driver. Typically this is the "last" tab, or
right-most tab, depending on your screen size.
While you are here (ie., in the mouse settings utility), take a look
at the various tabs to see if there are settings for the double-click
and right-click drag functions. The way that Windows works is that it
simply passes through your physical actions with the mouse, to the
installed mouse utility. Often, the mouse utility will simply pass the
action right back to Windows (examples being a left-click is passed
back as a click of the primary mouse button, a right-click is passed
back as a click of the secondary mouse button). This allows the mouse
utility to handle everything from a need for a left-handed mouse
(right-click = primary, left-click = secondary) to a mouse for someone
who can't exert constant pressure on a button (ie. a button held for
longer than one second, for example, is "locked" in the clicked
position until clicked again). There is a possibility that the
settings in your mouse/stylus driver have been altered from the normal
settings for a mouse.
Please let us know what driver utility is installed, and also whether
you find any interesting settings in the utility.

Sorry, one more clarification request. What type of mouse are you
using - can you also provide the connection type (PS/2, serial, USB)
and the make/model of the mouse? I realize that you mention this
problem occurs even when using VNC (I presume you mean when someone is
remotely controlling your computer, instead of you using the tablet PC
to remotely control another computer), but it would be useful
information to have available.
