Hello doctorc, I was surprised at the general lack of concrete statistics and data on 3rd and 4th marriages, but I did my best to come up with some information for you. "95 percent of all divorced people eventually remarry . . . 76 per cent of second marriages fail within five years . . . .87 per cent of third marriages fail and 93 per cent of fourth marriages end in divorce within five years." SOURCE: http://www.allaboutfamilies.org/00aaf14.html (Stepfamily Association of America (1997)) "These sort of findings are not confined to America. In Britain, second marriages are almost twice as likely to break down as first marriages, third marriages almost three times as likely and fourth marriages almost four times as likely to fail." SOURCE: http://www.irishcatholic.ie/030604-mt.htm "In fact second and third marriages are more likely than first marriages to end in divorce. The statistics say the 54% of American women and 61% of American men who wed a second time eventually go through divorce again (p. 276). In addition, about 40% of third marriages fail." SOURCE: http://bellarmine.lmu.edu/faculty/mmills_fp/Sexdiffs/spr01/panel6.htm "Remarriage divorce statistics are worse than first marriages. 60% of remarriages end in divorce. My advice to parents considering remarriage is that you need to do everything humanly possible to look into possible conflicts ahead of time." SOURCE: http://www.lifelinedivorceservices.com/Divorce_and_Children/divorce_and_children.html "Remarriage. Statistics show that sixty percent of second marriages fail. But remarriages can succeed with the right help." SOURCE: http://www.familiesnorthwest.org/dynpage.cfm?DPID=313 and this tidbit which I found in many of the articles: "You need to look more closely at those statistics. A vast majority of FIRST marriages are permanent. It's the people on their second, third and fourth marriages that skew those numbers." SOURCE: http://gaffa.org/pipermail/love-hounds/2000-November/012702.html I hope this was the sort of answer you were expecting from my research. Please let me know if you need any clarifications regarding this answer and I will do my best to further assist you. tisme-ga Search Strategy: percentage "third marriages fail" "remarriage statistics" "remarriage divorce statistics" divorce remarriage divorce rates remarriage "fourth marriages" statistic OR statistics "fourth marriage" statistic OR statistics "fourth marriage" success rate Stepfamily Association of America percent "fourth marriages" percentage "fourth marriages" percentage "fourth marriages fail"

I thought you might find the following report from the CDC interesting. It reports that 57% of first marriages last at least 15 years. It includes other statistics: http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/releases/01news/firstmarr.htm
