Question: What is the name of the singer/group and the album?

When I was a child, by Grandmother had a album with gunfighter song.
My grandparents have passed away and I can't find the LP. It seems
only my brother and I remember it. It had a song called "Bullet in my
Back.".... I think. That may just by part of the lyrics.
Does anyone know who sang this? It reminds me somewhat of a Marty
Robins song but it was not him.

Hi sjohns,

I have been searching for the lyrics "bullet in my back" and have come
to a dead end. Could it possibly be "bullet in my shoulder"?

Please, take a look at these lyrics and see if they seem familiar:

Bullet in my shoulder!!
BLOOD runnin' down my vest
Twenty in the posse!!
And they're never gonna let me rest
Till I became a wanted man I never even owned a gun

Let me know what you think. Thanks.

Regards,
rainbow~

Are you perhaps thinking of the classic cowboy song "El Paso" (which
might have been Marty Robins...I'm not sure)? It's a real
heartbreaker about a love-struck cowboy who kills his rival, runs to
the hills, but returns for his love (who doesn't really give a fig
about him), only to be shot by the posse.

It has the line:

I see the white puff of smoke from the rifle,
I feel the bullet go deep in my chest

I get teary-eyed just hearing it my head.

Hi sjohns-ga,

Do you remember the song being told in the first person -- "I did
this, I saw that" as opposed to third person "He ran after the
outlaw"? Was it a bit of an upbeat tune or slow? Did it sound like
folk music -- did it include just a guitar or also drums and other
instruments?

I've a couple of suggestions but your answers will help narrow it
down. Thanks!

Rainbow-GA,
Yes! Yes! This is the song I was looking for. Shoulder... back...
I guess I was a little off.

Bullet in my shoulder!!
BLOOD runnin' down my vest
Twenty in the posse!!
And they're never gonna let me rest
Till I became a wanted man I never even owned a gun

Try this link. Marty Robbins "Gunfighter" LP from the late 50's. It
was supposed to be very popular & influental in its genre. Nothing
specific about bullet in the back.
