Hello.

About 9.5 percent of U.S. adults suffer from a depressive illness in
any given year, according to statistics cited by the National
Institute of Mental Health, a U.S. government agency.

"In any given 1-year period, 9.5 percent of the population, or about
18.8 million American adults, suffer from a depressive illness."
source: National Institute of Mental Health

------------

In 2002, The New York Times reported that 7.1 million Americans took
antidepressants in the previous year.

"Last year, according to NDCHealth, a company that tracks drug sales,
7.1 million Americans took antidepressants, an increase of 700,000
over the year before."

The 7.1 million Americans who took antidepressants in 2001 represented
about 2.5 percent of the U.S.'s total population of around 290
million.

"percent of the population" depressed
"million americans", antidepressants

I hope this helps.
