Hi there,

I would be happy to help you with this, however you will certainly
need to provide more details as to just what it is you want. Please
include as much detail as possible. Also try and point out the
difference between the example you are providing and what you want for
your own site :)

Greetings!

I'm kind of curious as to why you would prefer newly-written,
untested, probably buggy code modules over tried-and-true, debugged,
and enhanced open source modules. New code would be much more
expensive and probably not work nearly as well, nor have as many
special features like the ones you have mentioned here and in your
other Questions.

Hi "joseleon-ga", thank you for answering this question too. I'm very
satisfied of your answers.

Here's a clarification regarding how I would like the Live Chat/Help to be:
-first I want an admin page
-There should be 2 pictures, for example: online.gif and
leavemessage.gif , inserting an html or php code where I want the gif
to appear. When somebody enter on my website, if I'm already login on
admin page, to appear on the web page the online.gif so he can start a
conversation with me. If I'm not login on admin page then refreshing
the web page to appear leavemessage.gif, so even if I'm offline the
visitor to be able to leave a message for me, a nickname and e-mail
address to contact him when I'm online. Would be great if these leaved
messages will be sent directly to my e-mail address, please let me
know where to change the default e-mail address.

When I'm login and somebody click over online.gif image then a new
window appear and first to enter a nickname to chat with me.
I would like, if there'are more visitors online and they would like to
chat with me each one in private windows.
My default username should be: webmaster .
The Live chat will wont be used for more than one user, that's me.

Hopefully you have an idea how I would like the Live Chat/Help to be.

Best regards, Justin

P.S.: Answering this question I'll add an aditional 100$ and 5 stars.

Hello, justin:
To migrate any PHP app there is a common method:
-Dump the contents of the database to a .sql file
-Copy the php files to the new location
-Create the new database
-Dump the .sql file to the database
-Change the config file (usually config.php) with the new host data

Don't worry, I will provide detailed documentation and migration
process for each app.

Regarding the Live Help/Chat I will post here a first release on Saturday, it's
that ok for you?

I live in Spain, so here is GMT+1.

Regards.

Request for Question Clarification by joseleon-ga on 22 Nov 2003 08:36 PST
Hello, justin:
I have just uploaded the first version of the chat system to your
website, you can see a shot of the working script here:

http://www.members.lycos.co.uk/justinforum/chat.png

To test it for your self you will need two different browsers, for
example, Internet Explorer and Opera/Netscape, this is because I use
cookies and you cannot login two times from the same browser.

Once you have the two browsers installed on your system, use the first
one to go here:

http://www.members.lycos.co.uk/justinforum/startchat.htm

You will get an empty page with just one link at the very top, the
link it's called "Start Chat!!", if you click on it, a new window will
open prompting for a nick name, enter "webmaster", this is a special
nick which allows you to have a chat with the rest of the users (right
now it doesn't request for a password, don't worry, will prompt for it
in a future).

Once you log in as webmaster you will get an empty chat room.

Now, do the same with another browser, for example, Opera, and instead
log in as webmaster, log in as, for example, justin, or whatever you
want. The popup windows are setup to reload each 5 seconds (this is
customizable) and after you log in as "justin", you will see in the
"webmaster" window, a link that shows "justin", just below the text
box. In this zone you will see all the people that are online looking
for support and you could switch from one conversation to another.

If you type something on the textbox, the 5 seconds timer will restart
after each keypress, so you can freely type with no time limit. When
you press send or "enter" the text will be sent and both windows will
show up the text (bear in mind the 5 seconds delay).

Still there is a lot of things to do, but tell me if I'm going in the
right direction. As this site is hosted on lycos, you will get
advertising on the chat windows, I supose you will want to change this
one day. Also, I still need to delete users and user messages after an
inactivity period/logout.

Please, tell me what do you think.

Regards.

Clarification of Question by justintimberlacke-ga on 22 Nov 2003 11:23 PST
Hi JoseLeon-ga , yes you're on the right direction, but could you
please add an image to show if I'm online or not. Also regarding
delete users, well... I would like the users name to automate delete
from database/or anything you use when they close the window -or exit.
Of course I'll change the host, I'll buy one I think next week. I
already finished my offline website so as soon I have the domain and
host I'll move all the content from lycos.co.uk in the new one.
Best regards, Justin

Hello, justin:
Post the info when you want, it would be great to use

http://www.xpde.com/upload.php

If you check some of my previous answers, it has always worked, I
don't know why you can't access http://www.xpde.com, it's a weird
problem.

Well, in any case, as soon as you post the info I will start migrating
all the scripts and finishing the chat one.

Regards.

I tryed again to load your upload page but couldn't. I think it's a
problem from my ISP, anyway I'll ask them about.
About host info, do you remember anymore the link I provided you the
first host info... well... please check out that web page again and
there'll see the new host info.

I think I'll can't answer you for any clarification because tomorrow
morning I'm going to Germany, I got a job there, for 4 months. So,
please start migrating all the scripts and finishing the chat one.
I'll try to check out the answer when I'll be there in Germany but not
earlier than 3-4 weeks.
Thank you in advance for answering, you're a smart guy.
Sincerely, Justin

Hello, justin:
I'm trying to execute a php script on your server but I can't:

http://www.myorphanage.org/test.php

Is your server enabled to run php scripts? Also, tell me if you have
any control panel to access your host configuration.

Hello JoseLeon-ga, I feel lucky thinking to check again before to go
in Germany if there's any question for clarification.
I asked the host, m6.net if PHP is enabled and they tolld me that it's
on. They proved me showing me this url: http://zappo.m6.net/php.php
,there is a php test working.
Yes I have a control panel, you must login here: http://control.m6.net/controlpanel
Use the same user name and password as for FTP, the Customer ID is:
5114 . On the Control Panel home page you'll find information
regarding databases, components etc. and on the left is the menu.
Hopefully everything will be fine.
Sincerely, JT

Hello, justin:

The php script I uploaded works calling it this way:

http://zappo.m6.net/test.php

But not this other way

http://www.myorphanage.org/test.php

No problem, I will use the first and having the control panel I will
request for support if needed, don't worry, take your trip, I will
solve it ;-)

Clarification of Question by justintimberlacke-ga on 24 Nov 2003 10:23 PST
Hi joseleon-ga , I want to let you know that fi you'll use the
support, even if you'll type your e-mail address to answer for
support, the M6.net Team will send the answer to my default e-mail
address. You should try to explaing something else to make them send
the answer on your e-mail account. Best regards, JT

Clarification of Question by justintimberlacke-ga on 24 Nov 2003 10:39 PST
For clarification, in fact if the PHP works then I must just to copy
the forum folder from lycos.co.uk to myorphanage.org ??? Please let me
know! If is just that to do then I'll do by myself after I'll require
to my host to enable php for my domain. Sincerely, JT

Request for Question Clarification by joseleon-ga on 24 Nov 2003 10:51 PST
Hello, justin:
Don't worry, I know how to deal with support services, I will
explain the situation and I'm sure they will understand. I'm going to
install everything using http://zappo.m6.net as domain name. And after
everything is working I will contact support to solve the domain
issue. In fact, most scripts are domain agnostic, that is, will work
on any domain. Don't worry, I will contact you if I have any serious
problem.

Request for Question Clarification by joseleon-ga on 24 Nov 2003 13:14 PST
Hello, justin:
I have sent a support request because PHP it's not working on YOUR
server, it's working on the box but it's not configured to run on your
domain, I will tell you more on this.

Also, I haven't seen MySQL support, just SQL Server and MS Access, not
the best choices and probably the forum won't work with this kind of
databases.

Can I ask you want you didn't choose PHPWebhosting.com? They run Linux
boxes at less half the price you are paying for this Windows server
and believe me, you would have a lot more flexibility.

If you plan to run a PHP+MySQL site you should choose a Linux server.
Please, tell me more on this matter.

Regards.

Hello, justin:
I know you are travelling, but to setup the scripts I need a
database, there is no MySQL installed on your server, I could use SQL
Server but it warns that there is a $15 one time fee, I can't do that
without your permission. And I say it again, this is not the best host
to run this kind of web site, I won't answer this question until you
tell me what to do but I will be working on the chat script to fully
finish it.

Regards.

Clarification of Question by justintimberlacke-ga on 27 Nov 2003 05:49 PST
Hello joseleon-ga , thank you for still working for. I just arrived in
Germany, and it's very nice here. YES, you have my permission pay $15
one time fee for SQL Server. I found in the west of Augsburg town, a
nice Cyber Cafe, with lots of computers, so I'll try sometime to log
in.

Hello JesoLeon-ga, I already got, on my default e-mail address,
confirmations for your requests for myorphanage.org website.
Here's the answer for sql database:
The SQL database you requested has now been created for you, please
use either your site IP or 206.166.204.250 to connect, use the same
user name and password as for FTP login.

Here's the answer for ODBC:
The ODBC has been created.
Sincerely, JT

Hello, justin:
Thanks, I will use that data, right now I'm adapting the scripts to
use a library to access SQL server / MySQL / Anything with minimal
changes, so will be highly portable. I have tried to access your host
and now is down, I have tried from several locations and it seems the
machine is down, I will retry later.

Regards.

Request for Question Clarification by joseleon-ga on 28 Nov 2003 02:58 PST
Hello, justin:
Now the site can be accessed, but not using FTP, I have sent several
support requests because of that and also because they have charged
$15 to your account for "each" database I have created, while this
must be a one time setup fee, and also $1.69, I think it's for adding
a DSN. This host is no good, is expensive, there is a lot of problems
and the support is poor, please, consider changing your host. I'm
sorry about all these problems.

Regards.

Hello, justin:
Finally, the chat script is finished, you can find it here:

http://www.myorphanage.org/startchat.php

Now works as it should, pruning inactive users (2 minutes) and showing
whether the webmaster is online or not. Login as webmaster will prompt
you for a password, enter "pass".

It's just a matter to integrate it on your website, please, tell me
what do you think. Also, tell me how do you want the option "Leave
Message" to be done, e-mail to you or enter that message in the
database.

If you don't answer in 2/3 days I will do it as e-mail message.

Also, don't hesitate to request for any clarification, I'm here for
everything you need.

Regards.

Oh thank you for answering. I would like the leaved messages to be
sent to my e-mail address, here's the web page with info regarding:
http://members.lycos.co.uk/justinforum/info.html

Thank you for answering the questions, it's so good because I can help
this website with Forum, Live Chat and Poll system, it's a donation
from my part for the webmaster of myorphanage.org website because
without his website I couldn't find the good way to adopt a boy of 6
yrs old. The webmaster it's still amazing about how quick I helped him
through answers.google.com . SO, this is why I didn't choused your web
host suggested because I don't really wish one for myself.

Thank you again for answering, I'll rate your answer right now. Best regards, JT

Hello, justin:
Thanks for such a great tip and for your words, are very helpful.
Regarding the leave message feature, now it's finished, you can
customize the destination on the first lines of the chat.inc.php. If
you/the site webmaster needs some help integrating the scripts on the
website, just tell me. If these questions expire, just open new ones
for $2.00 and "For joseleon only" in the subject, so I could help you.

It's nice to see how some websites help people, it's just... great ;-)

Just curious why you included a "c" in "timberla(c)ke", and why you
included "2003" in your website name as this could make your site
dated.
