How many public relations professionals are there currently in the
United States, including those working for companies as well as those
working for public relations agencies. NOTE this is public relations
only, NOT advertising.

According to the latest data available from The Council of Public
Relations Firms, there are estimated 600,000-800,000 public relations
professionals in the U.S.

Futurworkplace, Inc. estimated the number of US public relations
practitioners to be closer to one million.


?Current number of public relations professionals in the US is
estimated to be between 600,000-800,000. The US Department of Labor
estimates that there are 200,000 "PR Specialists" in the US today, but
that does not account for general practitioners, writers, agency
managers, event planners, government affairs employees, etc. Based on
research conducted by WorkinPR.com, Futurworkplace, Inc. estimated the
number of US public relations practitioners to be closer to one
million.?

?Public relations specialists held about 137,000 jobs in 2000. About 6
out of 10 salaried public relations specialists worked in services
industries?management and public relations firms, membership
organizations, educational institutions, healthcare organizations,
social service agencies, and advertising agencies, for example. Others
worked for communications firms, financial institutions, and
government agencies. About 8,600 public relations specialists were
self-employed.?
