Josh_robb-ga,

Thanks for the question. I will start working on it tonight.

Regarding the list of hospitals for Canada, Central America and the
Caribbean. I would like to do that list, but would it be possible to
let you know tomorrow night. I may have to have dental surgery done
and I will know by then.

I also have a suggestion regarding the list of hospitals for the
Middle East. Researcher rainbow-ga would be the perfect person to
assemble that list as she is presently living in that region and is
fluent in Arabic.

Thanks,
Bobbie7

Hi Josh_robb-ga,

I located a Latin American & Caribbean Hospital Database.

The Latin American & Caribbean Hospital Database covers almost 15,000
hospitals and private clinics in Mexico, Central America, South
America, and the Caribbean. The database covers private and public
facilities with overnight stay beds.

Data sources. Information included in the database is based
principally on ongoing mail and phone surveys conducted by the Pan
American Health Organization.

Here is an example of the information

Hospital name
Address
City
State
Country
Postal Code
Phone number
Fax number
Telex

Structure:
Beds
Personnel
Computerized MIS
Financial support
Teaching programs
Basic science research
Clinical research
Children's hospital

The data are available for license in three options:

Database option. User selects hospitals based on country, beds,
services or other criteria. All data fields for selected hospitals on
diskette or magnetic tape.

Mailing list option. Hospital name and mailing address on labels,
diskette or printout.

Directory option. User selects hospitals based on country, beds,
services or other criteria.

Prices:
-------------------------------------------
Directory option: lowest cost option
-------------------------------------------

If you don't need computerized data or labels, the directory version
is your most economical choice. All data fields for each hospital are
presented in a directory format on loose-leaf pages in a 3-ring
binder.
Directory Option - all data fields on paper
1-1,999 hospitals: U.S.$250 flat
2,000-3,999 hospitals: U.S. $0.125 / hospital
4,000 or more hospitals: U.S.$500 flat

-----------------------------------------------------
Database Option - all data fields on diskette
-----------------------------------------------------
1-599 hospitals: U.S. $250 flat
600-2,999 hospitals: U.S. $0.40 / hospital
3,000 or more hospitals: U.S. $0.35 / hospital
All hospitals: U.S. $2,000

----------------------
Mailing List Option
----------------------
1-999 hospitals: U.S.$300 flat
1,000-1,999 hospitals: U.S. $0.30 / hospital

Josh_robb-ga, I?ve been researching your question for over five hours
and have only been able to complete Argentina. I found 1720 hospitals
which is virtually the same number of hospitals that The Latin
American & Caribbean Hospital Database covers. I also found a list of
284 hospitals in Chile, however you will have to click on each name
individually to obtain the contact information for each one. The Latin
American & Caribbean Hospital Database provides 396 listings for
Chile.

I believe that this database may be a better option than individual
links to hospital listings. It?s been very difficult if not
impossible to locate extensive lists of hospitals in South America. I
assume the Caribbean and Central America hospital listings will be
even more difficult to locate.

Please let me know your thoughts.

Thanks
Bobbie7

Sorry about the typo.
It should say "hospitals" not "hosaspitals"

Bobbie7,

Thanks for that info. We will take a look @ the database.

What to do about this question.

I propose that I open a new question specifically for Argentina & Chile for $50.

I have also posted a new question for Canada.

Let me know what you think is fair.

Hi josh_robb,

"I propose that I open a new question specifically for Argentina & Chile for $50."

That sounds fair to me.

I am working on Peru now. Perhaps you would want to open another
seperate question for Peru for me or you could adjust the price of
the Chile-Argentina question and I would provide the information for
Peru as well.

Thanks
Bobbie

Here is the information for the Latin American & Caribbean Hospital Database:

?The Latin American & Caribbean Hospital Database is the only
comprehensive database of hospitals in Latin America. Published by
Dorland Healthcare Information in conjunction with the Pan American
Health Organization, this database offers up to 130 data items on
approximately 15,000 hospitals. Data are available for license on
diskette, mailing labels, or in a hardcopy directory format.?
http://www.dorlandhealth.com/db-lah.htm

It appears to be comprehensive and reliable as it is compiled together
with the Pan American Health Organization.

Let me know if this database meets your requirements.

I have the information for Argentina, Chile and Peru prepared for you.

Best regards,
Bobbie7

I?ve been working on your question all day long and I?ve only found
small pieces of information for the other countries. There does not
seem to be anything as detailed or comprehensive as the database from
South Africa that I gave you previously.

I gave you the link to the Latin American & Caribbean Hospital
Database earlier today. Have you had a chance to see it yet?

Please let me know how to proceed with your question.

Thanks,
Bobbie7

Bobbie7,

Thanks so much for all your work! If I understand correctly you have the following:

Data for
Chile, Argentina, Peru and Brazil.

You have also provided us with a company from which we may be able to
license a complete set of data (which looks amazing! - depending on
usage restrictions). Which also included hospital numbers for the
entire region.

Given the ammount of work you have put it please post all the results
you have (including any incomplete sets) as the answer for this
question. (I hope that is satisfactory).

Great work!

Dear Josh_robb,

Here are the results of my research for hospitals in Chile, Argentina,
Peru and Brazil. I am also including the pieces of information that I
gathered for the other countries. As I mentioned previously, the Latin
American & Caribbean Hospital Database appears to be the best source
of the type of information you require. It is comprehensive and
reliable and it was compiled by the Pan American Health Organization
together with Dorland Healthcare.

Firstly here is the information for this database:
