Hello,

I am looking for a way/place to purchase a brand of alcohol that I
cannot seem to find, be it online, or in American stores. The name of
the alcohol is Safari, and I would like to buy a bottle of it for one
of my friends. He first heard of this liqueur while stationed in
Turkey, and has been looking for it again ever since.

I have searched almost all of the liquor stores in the Atlanta, Ga
area, and not only do these stores not carry Safari, most of them have
never heard of it. I have also searched for Safari online, and have
seen drink recipes, as well as a picture of what a bottle of Safari
looks like. So I do indeed know that the liqueur exists. It appears to
be available in most of Europe. What I cannot find is a store that
will ship to the United States. I would like very much to buy him a
bottle of it for his birthday, but cannot seem to find it anywhere!

So what I am looking for, is a store somewhere in the US, that carries
Safari and will ship it to me; OR, an online store that will ship it
to me in the US, OR, as a *very* last resort, I would even be willing
to buy the alcohol from someone overseas via an ebay/yahoo type
auction and have the seller ship it to me.

I have included some links to pictures of Safari, and a link to a
description of the liqueur for your reference.
Please Help!

Hello, and thank you for your question. I found that Safari is
imported by Guiness UDV North America. While the corporate web site is
down, so I could not find importers all over the US, I did find this
contact for you, so you can find out who imports it in your specific
area.

nvwriter-ga,

Honestly, I do not feel as though this has answered my question.

I had specifically asked for a pointer to a store, or online shop, or
auction in which I could order this beverage from.

Even though the answer you have provided did not answer my question, I
did follow the links that you have provided, and was unable to find
any link which sugessted that Guinness UDV North America is an
importer of Safari. Could you please point out the specific web
address (that works) in which you found this?

And since the 'corporate' web site www.diageo.com, as well as
udvna.com down, and has been all day, I have been unable to find any
connection between either Diageo, Guinness, or Safari, on those
websites.

Indeed, in all the searching I have done over the past several months,
the only link in which I could find any connection between Diageo, and
Safari was here:
http://www.gonzalezbyass.com/ing/noticias.php?pos=4
And while I did find that Diageo does own Guinness, I never found the
Guinness UDV, North America link to Safari.
Also, I fail to see the correlation to how an employee of
Guinness/UDV, Jeff Jara, who is simply the contact for the company's
dealings with the Minnesota Municipal Beverage Association, could tell
me where I could find a store in which I could purchase Safari, or if
the company does indeed import that particular alcohol to the United
States.

Searches that I have performed:
"Guinness UDV" +Safari
://www.google.com/search?num=100&hl=en&lr=&newwindow=1&q=%22guinness+UDV%22+%2B+Safari

"Safari" +"liquer" +"Guinness UDV"
://www.google.com/search?num=100&hl=en&lr=&newwindow=1&q=%22Safari%22+%2B%22liquer%22++%2B%22Guinness+UDV%22

"Guinness UDV" +"Jeff Jara"

"Guinness UDV" +"Jeff Jara" +"Safari"

If you are able to point me in the direction of my original question,
which was, in summary,
"Where can I find a store, either brick, or online, which will ship
Safari to my location in the United States?",
Then I will happily rate this answer.

Thank You for your effort.

I'm sorry you were not happy with my answer. I certainly would not
have posted it had I not been sure of the information. One of the
orginial links you posted said that it was made by UDN of the
Netherlands. However, as I looked for UDN, I found that it was really
UDV, or "United Distillers and Vintners," of the Netherlands, who
where taken over by Guinness, whose parent company is Diageo. Since
you did not give the specific area you were looking for in the
country, I felt confident that if you contacted the American
representative of this company, you could find out the Guinness UDV
importer in your area, and order through them, and I said that in the
answer.

It took me quite a while to dig down and discover the parent company,
and I felt this would be very helpful information for you to order
your product. I'm sorry that you were not happy, I would have
appreciated your giving me the chance to clarify my answer before you
rated me so poorly.

A picture (I believe the one you provided, without the caption), that
says, "The UDV company Safari Liqueur now is bottled in Spain with
this beautifull label. A good work."
This was my hint that UDN was really UDV, a distiller and bottler in
the Netherlands, as I found, which led me to the search

"UDV" +netherlands
://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&q=%22UDV%22+%2Bnetherlands
This search provided numerous references to the Guinness UDV merger,
which was confirmed by the

Hoover's Online
Hoover's Online Capsule-- Guinness/UDV
http://www.hoovers.com/uk/co/capsule/1/0,2163,57721,00.html
This link provided the information that Guinness and UDV were one, and
that the parent company was Diageo.

Since that website was down, I dug further, and finally found the
North American representative of this company, who imports Guinness
and UDV products. I did not realize that you would want all that
detail that went into the discovery, or I certainly would have posted
it, and here it is.
I hope this helps you in your search.

I do not feel that this answers my question. nvwriter-ga has provided
me with links to a google search, which I have already done myself, on
several occacions. nvwriter-ga also proposed that Guinness UDV is an
importer of Safari in the United States, a theory for which I find no
supporting evidence.

Well no luck here. So I'll unlock and leave it for another researcher
to try. I called about 8 different wine & liquor distributors in
Atlanta, all do not carry this Dutch liqueur. Good luck in your
search, it sounds tasty!
