Hello.

The source of the quotation is Gregory Bateson's book, Mind and
Nature: A Necessary Unity (New York: Bantam, 1979), page 8.

The quotation appears in (and is cited as footnote #3) in "Interface
Design Seeking an Appropriate Analysis Framework," hosted by mq.edu.au
http://www.ccms.mq.edu.au/course_list_pages/mus302/readings/interface_design.html

If you'd like to purchase Bateson's book "Mind and Nature: A Necessary
Unity," it's available from Amazon.com:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/stores/offering/list/-/0553227866/all/

Bibliographic data from the Library of Congress:
http://catalog.loc.gov/cgi-bin/Pwebrecon.cgi?v3=1&DB=local&CMD=010a+78014796&CNT=10+records+per+page

------------

search strategy:
"crab to the lobster" bateson
"Mind and Nature" "crab to the lobster" bateson

I hope this helps.
