A couple of weeks ago I posted the following question here:
http://answers.google.com/answers/threadview?id=293774
I wanted to re-post this question for a couple of reasons:
1. I wasn't clear on how I wanted to structure the answer process.
Instead of having a researcher simply answer the question, instead I
would like researchers who are interested to offer their suggestions
as comments. If I end up using one of the suggestions, then I will
notify the researcher who can then put the comment as a question in
order to get paid. It is highly possible that none of the suggestions
will be used in which case the question will go unanswered.
2. The focus of the web portal has shifted slightly since I posted
the original question. Originally the plan was for the site to focus
solely on audio learning resources. However, I have made the decision
to also incorportate video and live seminar resources as well.
Therefore, any names that are audio-centric probably aren't going to
be the best.
The current working name for the site is LearnOutLoud.com. Although I
like the name and feel that it has the flexibility to incorporate
audio, video and live seminars, I'm not 100% sold on it. For
starters, it's a bit long (I would prefer a domain name under 10
characters). In addition, I'm not sure how well it can be branded.
Additional information as to what I'm looking for can be found in the
previous thread. Again, I do realize that this is a bit of a
non-standard question but I think that some of the researchers here
may have fun with it. Please let me know if you need me to clarify
anything about this question. |

Definitely some good names so far. One helpful suggestion that I'll offer...
One of the things that I mentioned in the previous thread was that the
domain name wouldn't necessarily have to be directly related to the
nature of the business. Like Amazon, EBay or Yahoo, it could be
something unique that I could brand as an alternative learning portal.
In addition, if it had some type of tie-in to
listening/learning/etc., even better. On the previous thread, one of
the researchers suggested the name "heyra.com" (heyra is the Icelandic
word for hearing). I liked that name a lot although it isn't my
favorite. However, something along those lines might be great. For
instance, the Greek or Latin words for learning, education, etc. might
be relevant here. Or maybe just something totally unrelated...
A few other things that I should have mentioned before:
1. Please make sure that any names that you suggest are available.
The best way to check this is at www.netsol.com. Just going to a
website and seeing what's there does not ensure availability. I
realize that most of you know this.
2. The shorter the better! If I could find a domain name of six
letters or less that I liked, it would have the best chance of beating
out LearnOutLoud.com. Unfortunately, most of the short domain names
are taken but I have some hope that maybe there is something out there
(like heyra.com) that's available and would fit.
3. I only want a .com at this point in time. I still don't feel like
the .net or .biz extensions have gained enough legitimacy on the Net.
I would rather brand with a .com.
Thanks for the suggestions so far. There are certainly some good one
in there. Keep 'em coming!

Maybe you'd like something with a Biblical flavor:
pvb1.com (Proverbs 1) is available.
1 The proverbs of Solomon son of David, king of Israel:
2 for attaining wisdom and discipline;
for understanding words of insight;
3 for acquiring a disciplined and prudent life,
doing what is right and just and fair;
4 for giving prudence to the simple,
knowledge and discretion to the young-
5 let the wise listen and add to their learning,
and let the discerning get guidance-
6 for understanding proverbs and parables,
the sayings and riddles of the wise.
7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge,
but fools despise wisdom and discipline.

I have reached a decision. Unfortunately, it's not any of the ones in
this list. The name I decided to go with is:
www.learnoutloud.com
I want to say a big thank you to all of the researchers here who
offered suggestions. Even though there wasn't an answer awarded, I
hope that some of you had fun with the brainstorming process. Thanks!
