Question ID: 304764
(PART 2 of 2 : Required)

** NOTE : DO NOT ANSWER THIS QUESTION, BEFORE ANSWERING PART 1 **
** NOTE : ONLY THE RESEARCHER OF PART 1 MAY ANSWER THIS QUETSION **

** PLEASE NOTE : THIS IS PART 2 **

The Story:

We are looking for mall locations around the Eastern and Middle United
States which allow the renting of the Sales Booths (little booths
within the mall area that can be rented and products sold within)
which are all located in a fairly "wealthy" area.

Now, I understand that it would take quite _some_ time and resources
to gather up this sort of information. Thats why I split this question
up in two parts.

PART 1 will deal with you finding the actual malls themselves, either
the listings on some sites or individually, the more the better (for
both me and you). Then those areas should be researched according to
the statistical (no earlier than year 2002 or 2003) standard of
living, to separate the low-class from high class (wealthy)
residential areas.

You will get a $120.00 for answering that part, and the information
gathered will help you answer PART 2.

PART 2 should contain specific information on whether the malls allow
the renting of booths or not. The final listing which sorts the malls
(taking out those which do not allow the booths to be rented) and
leaving with only those that we need.

PART 2 should not be answered without PART 1, because

a) The information should be used from PART 1 to answer PART2
b) The $120 from PART 1 should be used to cover the costs of
calls/faxes done to the mall locations to figure out whether they
allow booths to be rented out.
c) The final PART 2 price be collected by pretty much the same researcher.

You will get a $300.00 ($200.00 from the question, and $100.00 right
away from the tip area) and any extra tip depending on how well and
professional the information is presented.

Thus most likely it would be one of you who will do both of the two parts.

You are free to answer PART 1 of the question (this one) as "poorly"
as possible just presenting the raw information about the malls, then
carry on with the $120.00 in hands to answering PART 2 which may
require some calls to be made (use the $120.00 from PART 1), perhaps
even faxes, and might take up to a few days to answer.

No one other than the researcher of PART 1, should answer PART 2. The
payment money from PART 1 are to be used (should be enough for most of
the calls) to gather up information by calling up the malls. Whatever
is left is yours to keep. Once the question is answered and confirmed
by us, the $200.00 price is yours to keep along with the initial
$100.00 on top, making a total of $300.00 and a tip on top.

Please present PART 2 with a very professional format. Think of this
as a monthly report you are doing in some very influential company.

I am open to any questions and suggestions, use Question Clarification freely.

Thank you for considering to do this question,
Sincerely

Gary

Hello garytarit-ga,

Thanks for your question, and particularly, for being open to use of
the Clarification process -- I think it will be needed in order to
answer your two-part query.

I don't mean to look a multi-hundred dollar question in the mouth, so
to speak, but I can't help thinking you're going about this quest the
wrong way. You are certainly not the first person to look for
information about shopping malls, and in fact, there are commercial
services that can:

--provide contact information for shopping malls across the country,
for any state or city (or combination of states or cities) of interest
to you;

--distinguish those malls that allow temporary leasing of space for
the "little booths" that are of interest to you, and;

--provide demographics (income data) on the surrounding communities.

--provide all sorts of additional information as well, such as number
of stores, customer traffic, sales volumes, square footage, etc.

The cost of these types of information run about $.50 - $1.50 per
record (depending on the amount of detail you want for each shopping
mall). For a few hundred dollars, then, you could get a listing of
several hunderd malls that specifically meet your criteria.

As a researcher, I could certainly get this information for you from
the commercial source, but then I would have a problem. Their
information is propietary, and I would not be able to post it here in
a public forum as an answer to your question. Nor could I email it to
you, since researchers and customers are not permitted direct contact
under the Google Answers rules.

The best option would be for you to purchase the information yourself
directly from the source. I would be glad to walk you through the
query process (which is complicated) in order to custom-tailor the
information you would receive, to make sure it best meets your needs.

My suggestion, then, is that I answer your question by providing you
the instructions for accessing the data, and then continuing to work
with you (through comments like this one) to insure you get the best
results.

Of course, if you prefer another route to the data, I'm very willing
to assist you, if I can. Just let me know your preference.

Thanks.

Hello pafalafa-ga,

Thank you for attempting to answer another question of mine.

1.

"there are commercial
services that can:

--provide contact information for shopping malls across the country,
for any state or city (or combination of states or cities) of interest
to you;

--distinguish those malls that allow temporary leasing of space for
the "little booths" that are of interest to you, and;

--provide demographics (income data) on the surrounding communities.

--provide all sorts of additional information as well, such as number
of stores, customer traffic, sales volumes, square footage, etc."

Would you tell me more about these services ?
How do they work ?
Do they have online sites from where I can request such information ?
Do I have to have a direct contact with such companies or can I just
order such information ?
Do they require the business to already be set up (because we are
still in the process of doing so) ?
Any other relevant information, or is it just a simple product
"package" which can be obtained from their site (either through
registering an account, and then adding the locations to the total and
then using some sort of a checkout -- or just selecting the states and
paying for them individually) ?

2.

"The cost of these types of information run about $.50 - $1.50 per
record (depending on the amount of detail you want for each shopping
mall). For a few hundred dollars, then, you could get a listing of
several hunderd malls that specifically meet your criteria."

The cost ofcourse is very important, but what I seek is clear and very
accurate information. That is precisely the reason why I have offered
such a large reward for this information because it takes time,
patience, people skills and money to gather up the requested
information. But altogether, if you believe that the solution you have
presented would work pretty much on the same basis, then I would be
more than glad to accept it as the answer as long as I get the same
data for the same amount of resources.

3.

"The best option would be for you to purchase the information yourself
directly from the source. I would be glad to walk you through the
query process (which is complicated) in order to custom-tailor the
information you would receive, to make sure it best meets your needs.
...
Of course, if you prefer another route to the data, I'm very willing
to assist you, if I can. Just let me know your preference."

It is up to you pafalafa-ga on how to approach this subject. I
definately do not mind using some other paid source to get the
information, but you have to understand that I want to invest the same
amount as here. There would be no meaning to pay a $400+ here to get
information on how to access a listing of malls and then pay the same
amount there just to get the listing itself.

Thus if you have a solution that can work out for both of us, I am
ready to accept whatever works -- as long as it gets me what I need.

Thank you for your well presented opinion,
I greatly appreciate your concern,

Sincerely,

Gary

Hello again, Gary.

Thanks for getting back to me -- we may to do this one or two more
times to figure out how to best move forward. You asked a number of
questions:

>>Would you tell me more about these services ? How do they work ?
Do they have online sites from where I can request such information ?<<

The service I am familiar with has compiled an extensive, up-to-date
database on more than 4,000 shopping malls nationwide. They have an
on-line option for accessing the data. You can enter your search
parameters (e.g., I want reports from these states, malls with rental
kiosks, at least X million in sales, etc), and the system will tell
you how many results it has found (say, 200). You can then alter your
parameters to increase or lessen the number of results, depending on
how many you want.

Once you've hit the "right" number, you can then buy any of a series
of canned reports, which are available as an immediate download.

For instance, the simplest and cheapest report is simply a mailing
address of a key contact at the mall -- the leasing manager, mall
manager, owner, etc. (e.g., if you had 200 results, and wanted to
know the leasing manager, you would download a mailing list of all 200
names and addresses).

Reports can be much more complex, and can include information such as:
number of stores, annual sales, demographics, availability at the
mall of kiosks for lease, etc. The more info you ask for, the more
expensive is the report.

The on-line option is easy, but it is not the only option -- you can
also order a CD-ROM with all the information on malls for the entire
country, or a print directory with the same -- these are pretty pricey
however.

>>Do I have to have a direct contact with such companies or can I just
order such information ?<<

You can just order it. Howver...given the very particular combination
of info that you want (kiosk leasing + demographics), you may be
better off contacting them directly and having them do a
custom-tailored run on their database.

>>Do they require the business to already be set up (because we are
still in the process of doing so) ?<<

There isn't any requirement in this regard -- anyone with the cash can
access the data.

>>Any other relevant information, or is it just a simple product
"package" which can be obtained from their site (either through
registering an account, and then adding the locations to the total and
then using some sort of a checkout -- or just selecting the states and
paying for them individually) ?<<

You just access the database, give them your credit card info, and
away you go. You CAN sign up as a member at the site, but this is not
a requirement.

>>what I seek is clear and very accurate information.<<

Then call in the professionals...! The folks with the database are
the ones who make their living collecting and selling exactly this
sort of information.

>>I definitely do not mind using some other paid source to get the
information, but you have to understand that I want to invest the same
amount as here. There would be no meaning to pay a $400+ here to get
information on how to access a listing of malls and then pay the same
amount there just to get the listing itself.<<

Understood! This current question is priced at $200 (I am not
suggesting that I answer BOTH your questions). If you paid this in
full, that would leave you $200 to purchase data, which would buy you
200 records at $1 per record (as I said, though, record cost is very
variable, depending on what data you're after).

You are certainly entitled to change the price you are offering on
this question, if you think a different amount would be more
appropriate.

==========

I hope this additional information helps. Let me know if you need
additional information in order to make a decision as to how to
proceed.

Google Answers is not always the easiest system in creation with which
to conduct a transaction like this one. But please bear in mind that
you MUST be satisfied with the answers you receive here, or you are
ABSOLUTELY entitled to a refund.

If I were to answer your question -- and if, for some reason, you were
not satisfied with the results -- then I would ask the editors
immediately to remove my answer, and you would not be charged.

Let me know how you would like to proceed on this.

Hello pafalafa,

How did your Valentines Day go so far?
My wife and I had a wonderful time, I hope the same was with you.

I believe we can proceed to testing out the service sites
that offer the mall listings and all the relevant information.
Im hoping that first you would post me a few of such sites
through the "Request for Clarification" so I would be able to
go through the process along with you. And a small sort of a
"tutorial" on how the process works wouldnt be bad neither.

After I will obtain the requested information, with your help ofcourse,
I believe you can simply post the information provided through our
little conversation into the answer field and then the answer
price (+tip) will be granted to you by the system.

I believe I should cancel the first part of this question.

What are your thoughts about my offer about how the process should
go on ?

Sincerely,

Gary

Hello Gary.

My Valentine's Day was LOUSY with a capital L, but nothing to do with
affairs the heart, just a fender bender (more like fender
ripper-off'er) on my brand new lovely Toyota. Maybe it *is* an affair
of the heart, after all.

But thanks for asking.

As I've been looking around at the shopping mall info sites, I've come
to the conclusion that there is really only one source of information
(there are numerous links, but they all eventually point to the same
site).

So...let's get things started and see how it works out. If it looks
promising to you, I'll count on you to let me know, and I can post
additional guidance on using the resources there as an answer to your
question.

And yes, it probably is a good idea to cancel your other question (The
one on shopping malls, that is...I left you a note at your NY packages
question).

First step--pay a visit to the on-line Directory of Major Malls at:

http://www.directoryofmajormalls.com/

Click on the button that reads "Run a Free Power Search" and play
around with the information form there. I think you'll find this a
very flexible and powerful tool to extract the types of information
you are looking for.

After you familiarize yourself a bit with the site, get back to me and
let me know if you think it will meet your needs. I expect it will!
