Dear Ladynrednm,

Several large job sites have listings for legal transcriptionists,
which you should check out, especially if you don't care to work *out*
of home:

Monster/Jobs.com <www.jobs.com>
<http://find.jobs.monster.com/jobsearch.asp?q=legal+transcriptionist+&re=0&sort=rv&tm=>

Career Builder <www.careerbuilder.com>
<http://www.careerbuilder.com/jobseeker/jobs/jobresults.aspx?vt=detail&cibookmark=1&jrdid=&sc_cmp2=JS_HP1_QSB_Form&strCrit=QID%3dA6651195163337%3bst%3dQ%3buse%3dALL%3brawWords%3dlegal++transcriptionist%3bCID%3dUS%3bSID%3dALL%3bTID%3d0%3bENR%3dNO%3bDTP%3dALL%3bYDI%3dYES%3bIND%3dALL%3bPDQ%3dAll%3bJN%3dAll%3bPAYL%3d0%3bPAYH%3dgt120%3bPOY%3dNO%3bETD%3dALL%3bRE%3dALL%3bMGT%3dDC%3bSUP%3dDC%3bFRE%3d30%3b
CHL%3dAL%3bQS%3dsid_unknown%3bSS%3dNO%3bTITL%3d0%3bOB%3dDF%3bVT%3ddetail%3bRAD%3d30%3bJQT%3dBID&sname=>

The newsgroup misc.us.jobs.offered also has some offerings, but they are sporadic:
<http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&group=misc.jobs.offered>
(search by legal transcriptionist).

Other two sites claim to have lists of jobs for working from home
legal transcriptionist.

One is "MT Daily" (as in Medical Transcriptionist's Daily), with job
listings, etc. However, some of the pages require subscription:
<http://www.mtjobs.com/>

Work at Home Projects also offers such a list for a fee:
<http://www.workathomeprojects.com/legal-transcription-jobs.htm>

I cannot recommend or vouch either because of the subsription. It
might be a place to add a general warning (not necesserily regarding
these sites) that teleworkers ("at home") are easy prey for all kinds
of scams, offering listings and giving things that you may have
founded yourself, etc.

A third possibility is to advertise yourself through freelancers
websites, such as:
ELance <www.elance.com>
Contracted Work <http://www.contractedwork.com/>

Finally, I think that the commentator here gave you a very good
advice. If you plan to work from home, you have to build yourself a
reputation, meaning that you have to sometimes work through agencies
that provide such jobs, in order to reach the customers, for example:

Directory
<http://directory.google.com/Top/Society/Law/Employment/Legal_Recruiters/?il=1>

Directory from Law.com
<http://www11.law.com/links.asp?k=1192>

Legal Personnel
<http://www.legalpersonnelinc.com/>

I hope this answered your question. Please contact me if you need any
clarification befoer you rate this answer.

I have been in legal administration for 12 years. Here is my advice.
If you are only interested in working contract work at your own home
start by workng through a legal temp agency. After a few jobs try to
make contact within the firms you are assigned and let them know you
are available for indepedent contract work in the future. Be sure to
abide by any agreements you sign with the agency. Use the contract
work as means of connecting to decision makers at law firms or
corporate legal departments. Once you establish a relationship with
the firm you might be able to land contract work. Most firms would
never use an untested independent contractor. Remember that if you
make more than $600 from any one firm they will probably assign you a
1099 for tax purposes. Good luck.
