What is the source of the blue and red dust fibers in my house? -I live in San Diego. -I have seen the fibers at my friend's house. -The fibers are numerous but hard to see. -The fibers are generally 2-3mm in length, significantly finer than any human hair, and are "squiggly", not straight. -After dusting off a white countertop, they are present again within 1-2 days. -There are no obvious blue/red/purple objects in my house that might account for the source of the fibers. |

Hi, Very odd indeed. But here are some questions that may help me or someone answer your questions. -Do you live in a house that is not attached to any other houses? -Look at your central heat/AC filter (change it and examine the old filter). --Replace with a 3M micro filter(change often (every 3-4 months)) -Look at your window(s)/door(s) screens, do they contain the fibers on the inside or outside? -Look closly at your carpet fibers (what color are they)? -What color is your insulation in the attic? -Do you live near any textile, recycling or printing industries? With these questions answered you maybe able to determine where these fibers are orgination from. X |

xeno: I've considered most of the questions you posed, but reading them caused me think of one other possible source of the fibers that I strongly suspect is the culprit. It appears that the lint in my drying machine's lint shield has mostly blue and red fibers. However, since the other people who live in this house and I have plenty of clothes that are either red and blue, the new question is why are almost all of the fibers in the lint shield red or blue? My curiousity over the original question is mostly satisfied by the lint discovery, and I'm not too curious about the new question I just posed. Would it be ok with you if I close this question? If you have already spent a lot of time researching this and/or can produce interesting findings, I understand that you will want to be compensated for your work. Otherwise, I'd like to close the question as long as that is acceptable. |
