I want to know the best books, guides, websites, toys and techniques
for teaching 6th grade math to my daughter. I was helping her with her
homework last night and the textbook seemed so boring and confusing. I
want to make it more interesting for her while at the same time tying
it into her school tests.

It's important to know what math subject she is taking, such as
Algebra I, Pre-Algebra, Algebra II, etc.

Chis,

Hi. Thanks for your interest.

It looks like pre Algebra. She's doing some simple equations now and
just covered the definition of rational numbers.

Thanks.

One of the best books are written by I. M. Gelfand (a student of Prof.
Kolmogorov). In fact, Gelfand is a diretor of "The Gelfand
Correspondence Program in Mathematics (GCPM)," you might want to join
it (I don't think money is an issue with Prof. Gelfand). You can find
out more about this program as well as books written by Prof. Gelfand
by visiting
http://gcpm.rutgers.edu/

To learn more about Prof. Gelfand and his teaching style visit
http://www-gap.dcs.st-and.ac.uk/~history/Mathematicians/Gelfand.html

I don't know of any other books in English that do it as well as Gelfand books.

I been study from Gelfand books for some years now and they are amazing.

Other authors to check out are (but I don't know if they have any
books for K-12): Shilov, Kolmogorov, Fomin, Lebedev, Markushevich,
Tolstov, Landau.

I hope this helps. Thank you...

Hi sfbp,

I'm ready to accept your comments as the answer. I just wish that more
of the books were based on U.S. teaching of math.

THanks.
