I'm looking for a list of all available engines produced by Toyota
between 1980 and now. All I need is Toyota's model designation, no. of
cyl and configuration (straight 6 vs V6), displacement, and if
possible: heritage (the 22R follows the 20R). Additional points for
subjective comments about the motors (longevity, common problems,
etc.) May pay more for a comprehensive study on the topic.

Dear dangerisland,

I have found lists for Toyota's gasoline, diesel and racing engines. Data includes:

- model designation
- type
- valves/cylinders/angle (for gasoline engines)
- years of manufacture
- displacement
- various aditional information

Research revealed that this list is referred to as complete among
Toyota enthusiasts on the Web; I have also compared the engines listed
with the specifications of the current Toyota models. As far as I can
tell, only the three newest engine types are missing; I have listed
their data seperately below the links. So I hope that these lists will
prove to be what you were looking for:

http://techinfo.toyota.com/ is the service support site for all Toyota
technical information. There is a subscription fee, but it will give
you access to the exact same information previously only available to
Toyota dealerships.
