Question ID: 320255
I am looking for software that can make a visual map of all my
friends, including the relationships between friends.

For example, I would be able to enter myself as the root node of the
map, then if I had 5 friends, I would enter those with connections to
me, which would show up as connections back to me. Then if two of
those friends were also friends, there would be a line from friend A
to friend B.

The software should be able to handle as many friends as I give it,
and dynamically adjust to more friends. It shouldn't make me have to
draw little boxes and lines between each friend--instead I should just
be able to specify whether two friends have a connection, and then it
should dynamically draw a line between those two friends. It would
also be nice if lines could be thicker or a different color or
something showing a stronger connection, such as acquaintance versus
best friends.

Preferably this software should be for Mac OS X, not windows, but
windows will work if that's all there is.

One example of something like this is how many friend network
services, like friendster.com and thefacebook.com which use SVG
graphics to make a map of your connections with other people. I don't
know what kind of backend system they use though.

Thanks for your help!

Hi shniven,

After searching for several hours, the closest thing I could find to
what you are seeking is a program called Huminity. Here is a
description of the program:

"Huminity is a free software that visually presents a map of
acquaintances between friends, and forms a global map of connections
and contacts. Through the software, users can navigate the map of
connections, and find the paths of acquaintances between themselves to
other people. Users can see and chat with their friends, the friends
of their friends, and so on. The software can be used for finding
business connections, to help find a new job, dating, community,
people finder and mostly for plain fun. Among its features are chat,
skins, search-path, and visually navigating the global map of
contacts."

Hi Rainbow, thanks for your research. While Huminity is very close,
it doesn't allow me to put connections between my friends. It is set
up to allow you to plug into their network of people and make
connections that way, where I want to enter everything in myself.

The interesting thing though, is that huminity is based on
touchgraph.com technology, which is the type of output I would like.
I have yet to find a touchgraph application that is editable though.
I wonder if there is one? That would fit the bill nicely.

This would be very useful for me, too.

So, I'm making this Comment to assist me in monitoring responses.

(Hope you don't mind Shniven. Thanks anyway!)

Like you, Shniven, I found that Huminity was not what I had hoped
would be turned up.
