Question ID: 323798
What architectural firms today would cite Frank Lloyd Wright as an
influence in their work? His legacy was evident in many 20th century
firms, first and second generation after Wright, but in the 21st
century, which firms carry on in the highly geometric, nature-driven
and or fractal language of his designs?

Thanks for asking!

Frank Lloyd Wright's "school" of architecture is often described as
Organic. I've located current architectural firms and new
architectural projects that use the term organic to describe their
style, influence or legacy.

John Rattenbury of Taliesin Architects
--------------------------------------

"When an architect designs a dream house, the dream is usually that of
his clients. Rarely is the dream his own. However, in the case of the
1997 LIFE magazine Dream House, John Rattenbury of Taliesin Architects
designed a house that is actually his dream.

"When LIFE magazine approached me about designing this year's Dream
House, I didn't just sit down and design from scratch," says
Rattenbury, a protege of the late Frank Lloyd Wright, who co-founded
Taliesin Architects near Spring Green, WI, and later a second office
at Taliesin West outside Phoenix, AZ. "I had been thinking about this
house, and working on this house, and even dreaming about this house
all my life."

The house was built this past winter in northern California, about an
hour's drive north of Lake Tahoe. There are some 2,100 square feet of
livable space, and true to Taliesin tradition, the whole of the house
is designed to access the outdoors and vice-versa, bring nature
inside."

Alden Dow of Dow Howell Gilmore Associates, Inc.
------------------------------------------------

"After a year and a half association with the offices of architects
Frantz and Spence of Saginaw, Michigan, Alden Dow spent a memorable
summer (1933) with Frank Lloyd Wright at Taliesin in Spring Green,
Wisconsin.

It was here that he met his kindred spirit: Frank Lloyd Wright shared
his interest in nature . . . in the relationships of structural
systems and materials to a design . . . and the effect of a building
as an environment upon those living in it."

Dow died in 1973, however "the firms philosophy is still very much "in
the spirit" of its founder, Alden B. Dow."

design."

"Eric's current focus is on the evolution of Organic Architecture and
Green Building design."

When you searched through "organic", it focussed on a group of SW
architects that dominate the culture on Post-Wright ideas. I was
hoping to use the geometric, nature, or fractal language to uncover
younger firms that are currently very vital. Most of those found by
your search are the second generation and are at the ends of their
careers, some also are no longer alive.

Plus, why the did the search only reveal Ameircan firms outside of one
Italian entry?

I'll gladly extend my search to the criteria you've detailed.

U.S. Centric answers - Since all Google Answers answers must be
presented in English, unless information about a specific geographic
area or language is requested, the results will tend to focus in
whatever direction/area/language is most prevalent among that body of
results. Local business and artistic commentary tends to be offered in
native languages, moreso than English. Time for translation of results
into English may be a limiting factor. Besides English, I also speak
Dansk and Espaņol. Would (untranslated) links to material in either of
those languages be of interest to you?
